This will only affect a select few STW die hards who may remember the epic forum invasion many years ago.

"As you're a member of our Parrot-Link forum, a forum/site that has been serving the parrot community for the past 16 years, we thought we'd inform you about our sad news.

We've thought long and hard about it and with likes of facebook being central to most parrot owners lives now, sites like ours are becoming dormant as a result, therefore we've decided to call it a day and we'll switch off the Parrot-Link lights for good on the 31st December 2014."

Wot's a Parrot-Link ?

Should I be worried about lots of Parrots being let loose?

Even I don't remember that (and I've been here longer than most), so it must be a really niche thing.

On another forum we invaded the Daniel O'Donnell forum on his site and it was so good it actually made the news in Ireland (caveat: it was probably a slow news day) and the forum had to close down.

facebook being central to most parrot owners lives now

You'd think that Twitter would be the parrot-owning community's preferred social networking service

I don't remember it and I've been here since just after gofar (2001?)...

FWIW, we had a good invasion of a fishing world from BM (remember that? 🙂 ) in 2001 or so. I was disproportionately pleased with my user name of carpe-diem 😉

Don't parrots squawk rather than twitter though? 😉

I remember when all this was fields, far as the eye could see. And I remember the parrot invasion, one of those tears on the keyboard evenings.

If you weren't there, no explanation is possible.

Oh, and someone, possibly Mark, had to apologise without having been part of the fun.

The SSB were responsible for attacking other forums, we took A1 surf down and Surf System 😆 oh happy memories.

Was the internet more fun back then or is it rose tinted specs time?

Haven't a clue what this is about - did users from on here used to get organised to troll other people's sites? That's nice.. maybe you "had to be there"..

I remember the Mumsnet War, but not parrots. Think the mumsnet thread is in their special threads section or whatever it is called. I wouldn't know, I wouldn't use it, as I am never BU.

It's like the old people's home in this thread - everyone's reminiscing about something that no one remembers.

Not really. Only OP is reminiscing, and everyone else is like...

Far as I can tell they had a site for spoof, satire and parroty.

Only a select few special forces forum users were chosen to go and raid the parrot forum one dark winter evening. None of the current big hitters were involved as they were all on bikemagic in those days (or nappies). The trolling was probably the longest and funniest set of parrot innuendo ever to hit the internet. I was nearly hospitalised by laughter. The owners complained to Chipps at 1.30am who then gave us all a big telling off the next day after having to placate them. Sorry if you weren't there 😆 if you were.
