Dear Fredrik Reinfeld PM of Sweden

SAAB=SWEDEN SWEDEN=SAAB

This is not good enough

I have owned SAAB cars since 1985 - frankly I'm, gutted!

I used to like SAABs. Odd looking, functional cars. Especially the centre-console ignition thing. Well, I liked them until they turned into restyled vectras & the like.

900 Turbo one of the greatest and most understated cars ever made.

They've not been SAAB for years.

If there ever was a t0$$£r stuck in the middle lane holding up moterway traffic, or someone never giving way when it was not their priority in the first place, or someone never bothered to use indicators when I am sure that the vehicles were fitted with them; then you can be sure they are driving a SAAB.

A more self satisfied smug bunch of twits could not be found on the roads. They drive around think they are using the latest aerospace technology simply because there is a third rate military plane assembly line under the same name (no sharing of tech ever went on)!

why be gutted? there are going to be saabs for sale for a long time to come. i like them, but then i am an independent thinking creative and sophisticated professional who doesn't like to choose the more showy marques. or is it because they're dirt cheap second hand?

The US adverts always used to have written in very small letters "No relationship exists between plane and car manufacturers" underneath a picture of a Saab Viggen. But strangely not one that said "rebadged Fiat Chroma" or "rebodied Vauxhall Cavalier" or even "rebadged Subaru".

that car just needs some fatter (phatter?) alloys to set it off.

IMO.

What backhander said. I am the antithesis of the driving you describe above. In fact, spend most of my time in my Saab getting angry about the above.
However, I did once have a Saab driver give me the w@nker sign on my bike for holding him up a milisecond at the lights. I stopped in front of him and he drove away rather scared.

Why should the Swedish tax payers fund a car company that has not turned a profit in over 20 years? Its the reason it was sold to GM in the 1st place!

I always liked Saabs. The older 900s, the 99, the old 2 strokes....

-right up until I drove one. It was a 9000 Carlsson and I discovered that the handling was very poor. I then drove a 9-5 HOT Aero and discovered that it was a barge that spun its front wheels ridiculously and under-steered badly.

The 9-3 is a saloon or a very ugly estate.

It is a shame when companies fold, but I was never going to buy a Saab, so it's no great loss.

Yep get a Vauxhall, same car for less money....I wouldn't touch em mind...pretentious poser mobiles bought for the sake of being different!

As an ex-Saab Specialist, owner of at least a dozen Saab's over the years and one-time active member on the club scene (well, it was good for business), I can confirm that fauxbyfour is not entirely wrong. Really quite right as it 'appens.

I deal with the admin side of Saab warranty as part of my job so less work for me . That might not be a good thing .

Look on the bright side. They may be bought/resurrected as quirky yet good cars again. Sorry not a GM/wifebeater brand fan. A bad parent company. At least Ford let Shaguar/Landrover go with some good models etc.

I would rather die painfully and slowly than drive a vauxhall.
All of my worst motoring experiences have been with those disgusting cars.
The sole preserve of the dull and least adventurous.
Vauxhalls should all be grey just like their drivers.
I have owned Volkswagens, fords, BMWs and one (cheap Aero HOT)Saab. No chance would I pay to drive a vauxhall.

I've testdriven a 93 1.9 TiD Sportswagon. I'd be hard pressed to tell you any good or bad points. When I testdrove a 95 aero estate all I can say is it was nippy in a straight line. Vauxhalls are also nippy-feeling in a straight-line.

The only good thing about all this is the cars will not be ultra-cheap. Sad really 🙁

Of course it is. Much like a Skoda is the same as a VW........

Saabs are what they are - inoffensive, mid-market cars that do what they're supposed to. How anyone could describe them as 'poser mobiles' is beyond me - that's like saying anyone who buys a non-mainstream bike is a pretentious c0ck too.

I doubt Saab will disappear for good though - someone, somewhere will take it on even if only for the manufacturing technology. I believe the Chinese have already bought the old 9-5 lines, tools etc.

I don't think that anyone is dissagreeing with you about them being unexceptional cars, just that a lot of people seem to think that they're being a prestigious car, when they're actually buying a rebodied Vectra.
Much like volvo drivers get funny when you ask why they've bought such an expensive Focus or Mondeo.
