started doing a little light jogging, after not having run for nearly 4 years, and am now into 4th week. just twice a week for 30mins at present, its just something to supplement my overall fitness routine and i quite like a bit of cross country in the summer.
the last 3 runs i've had to run on road, and today especially my knees are feeling a little sore on the inside. i've only had this once before and it was due to a poor pair of shoes.
at the time i then went to a specialist shop, i'm a severe over-pronator and they put me in brooks beasts which i've never had a prob with.. until now!
could it be the age of the shoes showing, or could it be something simpler like it being cold on my knees and i should wear leggings?
I would get new shoes and try and run three times a week.
Also plenty of stretching at the end of the run.
I almost always wear leggings during winter.
I know it does not look fancy, but does as the elder gentleman in top of leg, and it have to hurt a bit, doe it 2 times a day, also you can do the same stretch, standing over a stable table, it will stretch your itb band, running down your leg, and over your knee, i have done it for years, and it kept my knees nice and yummy!

I'm a recent convert to "barefoot" running, it's not really barefoot, I wear the shoes without padding and run on the balls the feet. No impact = no knee problems.
First couple of times I tried it my calves were mega stiff but after that it's easy

EDIT: I do proper barefoot .. taken 4 months to build up from walking to being able to take 15 mins jogging with a hiccup of too much too soon along the way which meant I backed of for a month.
Wear Vivobarefoot shoes when the tarmac's to cold (sub 5 deg)
2nd EDIT .. any worn out but well fitting plimsolls/daps would do in theory
I used to have similar issues, 1st off i bought urethan inserts which helped a bit.
Then I went to one of those running shops where you run over this pad thing and they fit you with corrective running shoes.
Sorted.
+1 for barefoot running. It is definately worth looking into. I run in vibram five fingers, Newtons and innov8 bare grip 200s. A foam roller can also work wonders.
i'll look into the barefoot stuff, thanks.
i'm hoping its the shoes, i've never had a prob with them so i'm thinking that its an age issue.
Again for the barefoot. I have a pair of merely trail glove for the summer and have just bought some vivo barefoot things which look a bit odd but have stacks of grip and fit my wide feet nicely. I'll never go back to 'normal' trainers. That's from a seventeen stone weakling running for forty minutes a couple of times a week.
