Going on a city break to Edinburgh and fancy doing some running, are there plenty of paths where road shoes are suitable or shall I take my trail shoes and go off piste around Arthur's seat?

I may have the name wrong but its the big hill near the city centre that Queen's drive goes round

You're right about Arthur's Seat. We were there this weekend and were talking about walking it. The lads said that there proper tracks but not too sure what they're surfaced with

There's a road right Arthurs Seat, which has a proper pavement. The bigger tracks are all hardpack.

The Water of Leith Walkway runs right through the centre of town and out to Balerno. That gets muddy in places.

The canal is also popular and is tarred all the way.

Corstorphine Hill would be another option.

It's mostly pretty well drained, which means road shoes ok?

I mean tourists walk them in trainers...

If your going to run around Arthurs Seat, make sure your wearing the latest fashion gear, accessories, listen to an iPod (strapped to your arm) and run like a girl. Then you should be fine.
