What is a premiership cup? And should I be remotely chuffed we stuffed sale this evening ?

I'm guessing it's not exactly crucial since not even BBC hereford and Worcester could be bothered to cover it, let alone bt sport

Stoner - it’s a replacement for the old Anglo-Welsh cup but is just the premiership clubs now and is supposedly an opportunity to play the upcoming youth players. Although Wuss seemed to be play a fair number of first teamers; CJ, Weir, Adams, Venter etc.

Lawes has returned early from the training camp due to a back injury, so another forward is broken for SA. He’s supposedly returning next week but missing a chunk of training probably means that he’s no longer in contention.

Scenes at Thomond Park.

Stats say Glasgow were better though.

Really good match.  Could have gone either way but the scoreboard reads only one thing!
Still 2 pts from a visit to Thormond park is not bad

It is a bit of a shame that game between us and the Welshies isn’t making any direct contribution to the Doddie Weir foundation that it is named for. I get that the fund will benefit from advertising and fundraising at the game, and I get both our unions need the money to stop the gap with England widening. BUT...it is impossible for us to compete on a financial footing so why not both unions make a gesture? For me he is a throwback to the way I liked the game more, it would be nice for just a moment to remember he played for the majority of his career for the fun, and give something back.

Bless, the whole point is to stop welsh and scottish unions from going bankrupt! Money should be going to the foundation though. Apparently they are passing buckets round at half time ffs....

For the first time in a long time the SRU are on a sound sustainable financial footing.  If less rich than the RFU - I thought the WRU was as well

Makes playing this game just stupid as we won't have full strength teams out

Anyone else going to Twickenham on Saturday?

Have you seen there's a train strike?

How are you getting there - and if driving - where are you parking?

kids off to the MIL's with their mother on Saturday. Unfortunately I have, er, other appointments so I can't go with them. Ahem.

Its a pity they couldn't spread the kick off's through the afternoon. The Cardiff and Twickenham games will clash.

As a an England fan the press are embarrassing, this BS in the Guardian is pretty arrogant. Its funny when you hear the players being interviewed they are always humble and respectful, but the headline and way this article is presented is like we are firing warning shots, and I will bet the interviews the quotes were "selected" from were very different.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/oct/29/manu-tuilagi-england-south-africa

Anyway I propose we should have a sweepstake as to what minute Tuilagi goes off with a season ending injury.
The prize is a smug feeling.
Each user can only pick one minute, and once that minute is taken then no one else can have it.
Obviously I am picking the best minute of the lot - 6:00-6:59.

Arf...Like Marler saying he didn't bother about playing Scotland last year because he always won against us?

Don't like the idea of that injury sweepie, but what about one where we guess when he will jump out the line leading to a Saffer try?

I found it, and he didn't say that. Isn't selective quoting fun.

“The old cliche you will always hear from us is that our next game is the most important, but I haven’t lost to Scotland and I don’t necessarily find it a tough place to go.”

Well as I didn't know the exact quote...perhaps you could tell me how it differs from my generalisation of it? Oh and selective quoting right enough...

"Scotland talk Murrayfield up as a hostile and tough place to go, but, for me, it is just another place to go and play rugby,” he said."

Well I didn't think that was the worst thing he said, the bit I quoted was worse, hence why I quoted it. To be honest it's a bit tautological as he kinda says the same thing twice. The never losing statement to me was the most arrogant, thats why I quoted it. Are you trying to say I was dishonestly defending him by quoting something that made him seem not so bad? Because saying "we never lose there so its not that tough" is pretty bad.
The point is, they are both quoted from a complete conversation which we are not party to, he never said "he didnt bother playing". Its a bit of bravado and yes arrogant which I said I don't like, but I also said he's a plonker.  He got his comeuppance that game anyway. Serves him right for thinking it would be a walk in the park.
Whats the issue exactly?

Nothing in that case, I thought you were suggesting he wasn't dismissive of the game. Anyway...

You lot are very quiet on the appointment of that hugely popular rugby man to the England coaching team today (insert smiley)

" I know you are English, but I bloody that that Will Carling"
Overheard on the commentary at an England Wales game in 89 I think.

Anyone know when teams are announced. Only two 10's in scotland squad and one of them cannot play this w/e who is back up?

I get a feeling Wales will be announced quite late, I think Warren G has gone home, his Dad died?
Fair play if he comes back for the weekend but I wouldn't blame him for having some family time.

I can't think Carling giving our players lessons on "Whats it means to be English" is going to help much.  In fact I can't believe the RFU are agreeing to pay for it.  IMO if the players don't already know that, they shouldn't be there.

Kryton; the rehabilitation has begun! The Times had a piece on him the morning which didn't resemble the Will Carling we all loved so much.  Personally I wanted justice; is having sexy time with the then future queen not an act of treason? Likewise; has anybody ever seen him and Fatima Whitbread in the same room?

Did you see her as your future queen?
We all thought it was his reward for being such an excellent servant to the nation.

Anyway I agree with Kryton, mind you we have a lot of boys who don't have typical English accents.

Yeah but who will be the bench 10?

Will be nice to see Kinghorn and Hastings startva big game. Hope both teams go for the strongest selection possible.

1 wing birth is in question for Wales as is 6. Ellis Jenkins in broken, no Navidi, no Moriarty as he plays 8, no Shingler. Theres talk in the camp of Cory Hill playing 6 as they want a lock to cover backrow in the world cup squad. If not it'll be Wainwright or Lydiate.

So whats happening here?   Jones going with pace over weight, skills over experience?  Are we to run the Boks around in the thick cold air of the southern England plain of Twickenham before they are acclimatised?

Mike Brown has been released back to Quins...thank f*ck for that! Guess that Daly will start at 15 then.

Morgan has also been sent home so I guess Mercer will get his shot.

The Carling appointment seems a bit daft / odd - so they really need to pay an ex player to tell the team how important it is playing for England? Which is basically what his role sounds like when Jones said because he’s not English he can’t emphasise the importantance of the jersey...no wonder were the laughing stock of world rugby.

Backup ten for Scotland will be Peter Horne  I guess.  He is about the only choice bar Kinghorn and I don't think Kinghorn hasplayed a senior game at 10

Peter Horne is a decent player but no international star but he has stepped up at 10 a few times and done well at times and been mince on others.

Kinghorn played 10 at age grade.

Retallik maybe just for the outrageous dummy but even biased as I am that Scotland try is a thing of pure beauty.  Just pace and vision leaving England floundering.  They had no answer to it.

Seems a bit short sighted to only have 2 proper 10's surely they'd want 3 for worldcup squad?

What sort of team you expecting? Welsh one pretty much picks itself. Anscombe is last man standing so plays 10, one wing spot of for grabs and 6 is an issue with Moriarty at 8 and everyone else injured.

Hopefully home adv will see us home but it could be a good game if both teams click.

For this game we only have Hastings.  there simply is not another 10 available.  When we get our players from outside scotland for the squad Russell is the first choice, Hastings is his backup, Weir might just get a squad place but even given his recent recovery in form he is a good staap down from those two.  P Horne is a decent utility back but prone to brainfarts thos he has also had decent games at 10 for scotland and Glasgow interspered with steaming piles of mince

Laidlaw can easily be 3rd choice 10 giving us an extra squad place for someone else  Remeber he has a lot of experience at 10

so for the full squad I would expect G Horne, Price, laidlaw, Russell and Hastings for the halfbacks
