Only following on bbc service but the Lions needed that try. From what I am reading we need a big improvement, 90m breakout scores are few and far between. ABs seem to be playing their normal conservative first half game and we are struggling to live with that. Call me a pessimist but they will be much more dangerous in the next 40
Lions line-out looking good today. Also, Watson and Daly both comfortable under the high ball.

We can beat this lot. They really aren't [i]that[/i] good. Aside from SBW/Teo, I don't think I'd swap many if any players. The gap we see is what should be expected from an established international team vs a scratch side. I'm not surprised Ireland beat them and I fancy England to do the same.
Jaco Peyper is having a terrible day so far.
The AB's are comfortably better in pretty much ever facet of the game; our defensive system is starting to falter a bit though and they know it.
The back three, Williams in particular have been pretty good. Forwards getting outplayed though in the loose and at the breakdown.

Can't deny they are the better team, sweetheart, but that's a par score for them. They aren't playing one of the best international teams in the world.
Maybe need to look at the bench, safe players are not going to be of much use. Also, thought that POM was doing well in the line outs and Teo in defence.

Agreed a_a about Itoje and Sinkler. Personally I didn't think that JD2 was that good either.....I'd go Sexton Farrell JJ at 10 12 13.....Teo on the bench for impact.
Te'o was pretty good today. He's had a pretty good tour so far and does provide some bosh in the centres and kept the AB's defence occupied.
The biggest thing for me is the AB's always seem to know what to do in space whether they're a forward or a back. Prime example being towards the end of the match when SOB was in a bit of space and went back in field away from the support players and hung onto the ball. That's pretty symptomatic of most NH forwards.
Great to see how much time Bauden Barrett and other AB's spend with the crowd.... pictures with everyone, fantastic advert for the game.

@wrecker the ABs are pretty conservative in their approach and play fabulous pressure rugby, IMHO the winning margins are only going to get bigger with the potential to get a lot lot bigger.

That must have been it then. Different ref next week; thumping win for the Lions.
I enjoyed the game - for about 50 minutes......
Each time the Lions had an opportunity but failed to take it it left you with a nagging feeling of "what might have been".
The ABs are too good for us but at least Liam Williams was brilliant and JD played well too I thought - despite my calling for JJ instead.
Next week we need more impact - Lawes, Stander and maybe Henderson involved. Sinckler to start? Webb at 9. Itoje needs to be on for 80.
I don't think we can win but at least go at them for as hard and as long as possible.
If we lose next week how about flying out the England squad along with Eddie Jones for the 3rd test?

He is never one of STW's favourite sons, but the media player ratings I've read had JD2 as more or less the lions best player.

Yeah Read, Whitelock, BB, Dagg, Smith etc are all pretty poo compared to the ZH players! Can't think of many Hookers who would have scored that try.

Davies was I reckon the only Lion that can say they outplayed their opposite number and maybe Watson who is class. Teo went toe to toe with SBW but the latters touch of class edges it. SOB was very good but Cane better. Faletau quiet but the Lions had no ball, I expect his tackles stats are stratospheric. Liam made one big error that led to a try.
More dynamism needed. Itoje for AWJ and Sinkler for Furlong. Warbs for POM would be a big call but POM didnt do much to slow the All Blacks juggernaut but is he playing well enough. I'd like to see Faz given more responsibility to kick for territory as Murray controlled things not sure I'd start Webb though.
I'd comment on Dalys Cuthbertesque defence for the first try but I worry for wreckers heart.

The problem is that if you swap the front row then you run a risk of losing that platform as well. It was meant to be somewhere that the Lions would pressure the AB's. So you need the trade off of mobility in the front row for a secure ball.Doesn't matter anyway; All Blacks will only get better, the Lions last try just gave false hope to their supporters.Also bear in mind the injuries suffered by the AB's in the first 20.
