Garland as a short term would be fine, give someone new a chance to build post world cup, limited options beforehand
Fantasy manager: With unlimited money & availabilty, who would you pick out of current living coaches/managers?
Do t know but it wouldn't be Pivac!
1) Rob Baxter
2) Scott Robertson
3) Jamie Joseph
I think all 3 have the skills and experience and also the right attitude to coach Scotland. Baxter I think is the outstanding NH coach. I'm not looking at those who hold one of the top jobs to keep some degree of reality
Scotland will never be a top coaching job however so for the very best talent it would only be a stepping stone to one of the top jobs
Chiefs are doing very badly at the moment, are you sure about Baxter?
Yes.
High jinks in the Scotland camp.
Hoggy being brave considering how big Duhan is
So here's a thing; I've been doing a lot of slagging off of EJ recently as have many others. Is this all a deliberate distraction? Watch Squidge:
and the prior video here:
He - Squidge - clearly thinks he onto something with this variable system England are occasionally rehearsing. I can't wait to see his analysis of the SA game, but two points were obvious - Eddie Jones DOES focus on World Cups/large tournament trophies, and he DOES change a Teams style to beat people. That latter has been his MO since the Brumbies days.
So are England playing - and losing - with two styles right now because they are not 100% on the ball with both? Are they sometimes practising the new systems as per the AB's game above, and sometimes defaulting to the old to hide their approach?
Interesting times, but I bet Eddie's playing that Video to the RFU right now...
I liked his analysis of the NZ game and thought it had some credence but after the SA game I am not so sure.
I'm with you, which is why I'm waiting for the video - I'm not clever enough to do my own analysis!
Just checking in to see if Pivac has been sacked
If Squidge rugbys analysis is correct then they need to practice it in games - not just 10 mins against NZ
Pivac sacked. Gatland back in for 6N and next World Cup, possibly until 2027 WC.
I wonder if the rest of the coaches will stay or go?
I’d have put money on the RFU being too spineless to sack Jones, especially after he’s made them watches Squidges video today. But perhaps that ^^ helps.
We find out on Wednesday.

Thanks **** I was having nightmares about Wales keeping Pivac and Garland going to England!!
Wonder if the SRU are going to FOMO into sacking Townsend now since everyone else is doing it. Especially now that Eddie Jones is available 🙂
Anyway, does all this mean that Gavin Henson is coming back?
I don't want Jones! Don't panic!
Cowan Dickie's off to play in France, I can't help thinking this is the start of a death knell for this current English team... leaving the sinking ship?
Jones to replaced by Borthwick according to this article.
Yet to be ratified, although there's no smoke without fire. Well either way thats a no confidence vote for Jones at best, so we can kiss goodbye too a decent England team for a couple of years, RWC 2027 here we come...
Damn! Could Englandshire not keep Jones till after the 6N please? People look at Borthwick and see the nose and ears, and fail to realise he is a very clever coach. Some of the defence, sorry... "other side of the ball in modern coach speak." was off this planet from Leicester last year. Players talk about how decent a man he is as well, so not even the panto villainy of Eddie Jones to fall back on. Look how quickly he turned his team around last year, I would expect a bounce from England as by all accounts Jones seemed a complete arse to work for.
Is Borthwick not a fairly inexperienced coach to take on what even now is one of the top jobs in rugby? Mind you I always thought he was one of those players who made the best of his own talents so maybe he does have something.
Scotland issue is we are never going to attract a top coach at the top of their game. There is no realistic candidate out there right now that I can see. Scott Robertson would not take it as he is after the NZ job. After we plummet out of the WC I suspect we will see a big shuffle of coaching jobs and maybe some young ambitious coach will take us on. I hope so

Lasted as long as anybody in International rugby with Jones, both with Japan and England.

I can think of two candidates with very recent experience of coaching Tier 1 nations off the top of my head 🙂

Eddie Jones has been sacked as England head coach just nine months out from the 2023 Rugby World Cup, with Leicester’s Steve Borthwick the overwhelming frontrunner to replace him.

While the Rugby Football Union put their succession planning in place, Richard Cockerill will take over the day-to-day running of the team.

from the guardian
Jones gone, confirmed on the Beeb.
Excellent, I don't have to listen to that "we're building to but not quite".... BS during the 6N
Don't think clarkie (Clark Laidlaw) is looking to return to Scotland. Having too much in NZ. Well thought of down there too.
Pivac for England, the campaign starts now!!
Never mind that; get all the knives out of TJ’s kitchen drawer! Darcey Graham is out for the 6n. Not since AA got the restraining order from Henson’s lawyers has a player been so admired.
Teej; look on the bright side. He won’t be able to run and hide as easily when he sees you hanging about his flat/place of work/ parents house/the tree in his garden outside the bedroom window.
Nooooooooooooooooooooo
*sobs*
I’m feeling a bit guilty of riding the “EJ out” bandwagon now. For all his bluster and boredom - and after I’ve read the comments and stats - he’s the most successful England coach of all time. Maybe we should have trusted him through to the RWC becuase he was leaving then anyway, now we appear to be a rudderless ship.
Has the RFU jumped on the press/crowd as Haskell & Giteau state? Or did he get stale as others have commented?
I spose it’s a bit late now, but I’m conscious Borthwick appears not to have jumped quickly at the chance after the media and pundit frenzy for his appointment. I wonder why.
You would hope they had a replacement lined up before pushing the button…………….🤷🏻🤦🏼♂️

I assume it's because he's under contract with Tigers and he can't just leave at the drop of a hat. The RFU are completely shafting Tigers by taking our head coach and possibly all the senior coaching team mid season!
he’s the most successful England coach of all time.
And that what appears to have been forgotten. I think this is a massive error, I hope to be proven wrong.
However it's only 55% win rate in last two years which is the main reason he's been fired. I think whoever comes in has the opportunity to create more of a "team" mentality in the way Woodward did, or Southgate is doing with the footballers. Eddie's damaged a lot of players in the last seven years, many of which we could do with now as others get too old or lose that extra appetite.
He did well with England early on, but something isn't happy in the camp and it shows in the way they're performing on the field. I'm glad a decision has been made to remove him albeit I wish it had been done 12+ months ago.
Like others have suggested, it would have made a bit more sense to have had the replacement lined up like Wales did. I'd be happy if we ended up with Scott Robertson or Borthwick for the World cup and the following 6 Nations but then to re-assess. The likes of Edwards and Farrell senior would be good to discuss with about a return to England in due course.
Gavin?

How so? He said judge me on the World Cup and he failed to win it. Woodward did win it, doesn’t that make him the more successful of the two?
So Rowlands, our best lock is leaving Wales, Max Llewellyn, very promising 12, has apparently signed for an English team and Dillon Lewis apparently close to leaving...Gatland may well have to scrap his law if he wants to field a competitive team.
How so? He said judge me on the World Cup and he failed to win it. Woodward did win it, doesn’t that make him the more successful of the two?
Well, it depends on how you are measure the success. Over 71% win rate all told, 18 game win streak, 3 6N wins, being the measure of the AB’s, not losing against Australia including a tour whitewash. Or no World Cup, 55% win rate over the last few years, team apparantly in shambles and lacking strategy and style, several player fallouts and constantly rotating backroom staff.
Bloody hell Osprey where did that come from?
Borthwick (Head) and Sinfield (defence) to be confirmed as England coaches tomorrow.
Hamish Watson "stood down" from rugby due to a series of head knocks. Toonie doesn't know if he'll be back playing.
That's shite, hope he is ok. The game still needs serious change
Yep. The current red card regime hasn’t really changed behaviour at all. Forwards constantly smashing into rucks and tackle zones head first must add up over time.
I would like to see a total team weight limit for pro rugby. The supersizing of modern players is crazy. You want 2 monster props? That’s fine but you will need to balance that elsewhere in your squad.
