In theory meant to be heading up to Dundee today from Cheshire.
No 4x4, no winter tyres (tried but too late).
Delayed from yesterday but wondering how bad it is up there.
Webcam from A90 looks interesting

There are a couple of delays on the M74, but the previous main blockage (A9 between Stirling & Perth) appears to be clear.
Keep an eye on here if you can http://trafficscotland.org/currentincidents/index.aspx
Heavy snow is forecast for today around Stirling though.
Dundee is currently under 2 - 3ft of snow depending on ur location in Dundee. No buses running and very few roads have been cleared.
Snowing heavy again. Dug my car out 3 times Monday, twice yesterday and again today, it was up to the axles in snow.
bruk,
Unless all of last nights snow was just dumped in my street (which it does look like!) then I wouldn't bother. The main roads should be passable with care, but the Forth Bridge is currently shut and the alternative route via Stirling was shut for a long time earlier in the week.
it would need to be something really important. I'm not sure a 4x4 with winter tyres will make that much difference for the trip. If you get stuck it will probably be because the police have closed the road or there is a jam behind other vehicles that are stuck.
I'd certainly take some flasks of soup and coffee, lots of food, all the recommended winter gear (blankets / sleeping bag), boots, shovel, bag of salt/grit, torch, spare fuel, etc. I'd also suggest you take some good books or something to pass the time with if you do get stuck.
Thanks guys, confirms my thoughts that it looks like I might make it to Perth/Dundee and get stuck there.
Snow shovel, mats for putting under wheels, rock salt, sleeping bags, stove, thermos etc all packed but it is still a BMW estate and therefore pretty useless.
Ah well another day at home, might get out for a ride 😀
On sunday the main roads were closed and I passed one queue of around 8 miles (going other direction), also took near 2 hours to travel around 1.5 miles on Perth by-pass. It's worse now - GF lives outside Perth and has been snowbound since Sunday. My garden (Dundee) is under 2'-3' of snow and looking up the river there is more and more snow coming this way. Lorries are also a major problem - not aimed at drivers, but they do jack-knife and close roads.

A mate in Dundee said it was 3ft deep in her street, they hadn't even bothered clearing it. She said she's never seen it this bad!
Meant to be the usual trip round family as I will be working at christmas as usual.
Start in Dundee, head up to Inverness then 60 miles north of that then back down to Aberdeen. Essentially not a good route at the mo though was thinking of heading to Inverness via Fort william to avoid the A9.
We act like a parcel delivery service too so a few extra thigs may be getting posted.
Not a chance in hell would I try such a journey on non-winter tyres.
Is it an emergency? In my old Subaru Forester with full-winter tyres I'd consider it as it'd still move regardless of the conditions. A normal road car? 😆 I turned back from driving down to Surrey early Sat am when a wall of snow camedown- not because of the car I was driving but because other drivers were still driving at 70mph+.
A1 around newcastle was poor this morning.
Work called and told me to come in if was safe, if not work from home, the school buses couldn't get up the hill to school again.
Was glad to go back, had some loon sitting a cars length from my back, when I was going 60 in the fast lane, with a constant distance between me and the person in front.
I woudln't try it, unless you want to risk a night in the car or on a Perth community hall floor. Plenty more snow in Perthshire overnight tonight, very cold and powdery so the slightest wind and it'lll start to drift.
Top tip: I always keep my Mountain Equipment down sleeping bag in the boot. If me and mrshora go somewhere I always put hers in.
Yep - and a shovel, bucket load of grit and a flask of soup.

Drove down from Dundee on Monday afternoon, went via fife, kinross, A91 to Dollar, then Stirling in my wifes Zafira. The snow was "proper" deep goign through fife and leaving Dundee the roads did keep you sharp.
The drive was "interesting" but never got stuck or stopped. Remarkably little traffic on the roads going that way. BUT I also have a BMW saloon and there is no way it would have got through the snow that the Zafira did. At risk of blowing my own trumpet I am pretty good at driving in the snow and it would not take much to get stuck in those conditions. Stay at home is my advice.
Chose to stay at home for another day and wait and see how it is tomorrow/friday. I have driven a lot in snow both on and off road but discretion is the better part of valor.
Have prepped everything but car choice can't be altered, its either 3 series or 5 series. Seemed like such a wise choice in September. Well at least I will be comfy when I do get stuck.
discretion is the better part of [s]valor[/s] stupidity
smart move 😉
Good decision. It's definitely not worth attempting the drive unless you REALLY have to.
