I've just found out he's died.
The name won't mean much outside the Scottish climbing fraternity, but The High Mountains of Britain And Ireland os one of the definitive books on Scotland's mountains with brilliant route descriptions. he was one of the most highly thought of people in conservation and climbing and a damn nice chap as well

Oh what a shame.

I read that book a hundred times when I was bagging.

ouch.
Founder (?) member of the John Muir Trust, as well. Certainly a trustee until recently.

Their numbers are reducing, after the death a year or so back of Malcolm Slessor.

Sad loss indeed - a kenspeckle figure...

I wonder what legacy the 'scottish mtb scene' will leave behind in say 50 years time

Thanks for the link to the obituary BBSB, love Vol 1 but never knew anything about the man himself.
