For some reason this song came into my head today, I remember it from car journeys as a kid. So it can't be cool, because my dad wasn't.

I thought it might be vangelis, but it's not in the top on spotify - and this is a famous song.

So.

(Arpeggio) stab, stab, down down up down; down down...up up down down, up up down down...

(Pause)

Stab lower stab pause stab

Drum fill, then the same again to a beat

It's really famous, you'll all know it. Totally 80's...

But how do I google that? I tried to shazam it but it didn't recognise my singing

It's been on the telly loads, probably on adverts. Think swishy vangelis type reverby synths with really 80's Casio drum fills.

It was a massive song, and it's doing me head in that I can't think who did it!

Did you try songtapper?

Not knowing the speed of the arpeggio or if 'stab, stab' is an allusion to a note or Dario Argento soundtrack - I'm left amused at this puzzler!

My best guess is Thomas Dolby (just cos I liked Thomas Dolby) - 'Blinded Me With Science' or 'Hyperactive'?

*Edit -oh, 'swishy', no then 😉

The closest I can think of in terms of style, is the john Williams deer hunter theme...that sort of sound but on big synthy synths. From the 80s.

I am aware how insane I sound

More of a classical thing than a pop song.

It's doing my nut in

Instrumental. Maybe it was from a film....

Synth sound was stringy.

I'll draw it out like it's on a sequencer

Anything from Ennio Morricone? He mixed a lot of classical with synth sounds...

I always thought the theme from 'Brookside' was by Vangelis.
