I appear to have a touch of bronchitis and was wondering if it's a bad idea to go riding.
I only seem to be coughing every now and again, so not too serious, in my opinion.

If it continues into next week a visit to the doctor will happen.

Am I risking damage if I ride?

i had bronchitis 2 years ago and was taking antibiotics and steriods to clear it. i rode, which in hindsight was stupid, and i wouldn't do it again. don't think it made me any worse and i did take it easy, but the pain in my chest and other symptoms was pretty awful and i couldn't really speak either... i sometimes worry about the damage i may have done - the scaring on my lungs/pain took a long time to go away and was noticeably worse during/post exercise.

above the neck, you're usually OK

Once a cold goes below the neck, that's when rest is the better option.

Like you i tried the sweat the bugger out tactic 2 years back, and ended up with pneumonia. best avoided.
