[Closed] Riding for a little boy with cancer (sponsorship plea!)

A plea to my fellow riders...

On Sunday the 8th I'm helping to organise, and take part in, a sponsored mountain bike ride - to help raise funds for Riley.

Riley is a little 8yo boy who lives in our village, and goes to primary school with my daughter.

He's battling an aggressive cancer for the second time in his life, having already spent many months in hospital and has missed two years of school. He may now need to travel to the US for treatment, which will cost far more than any family could afford.

Please read more here, and consider a donation if you can, however small:

Thanks for reading 🙂

Done. Good luck.

Do the family have a funding site themselves? If you post a link I'll make a donation to that as well.

Thanks Benv, much appreciated.

I never thought I'd raise beyond one or two hundred quid; as well as family/friends, the donations from this site and other MTB groups has been really heartwarming and shows what a great community mountain bikers are 🙂

Yes the family do have a GoFundMe crowdfunding page, but they're in the process of setting up a new fundraising account with charitable status - so we're holding off from adding to the existing page currently. I believe that way they can claim gift aid on donations which will help. (If you want to see the existing account, search GoFundMe for "Riley's Fund", it's organised by Sally Flint).

Anything I raise will get transferred into the new account, which I'm told should be up and running sometime next week.

Cheers

Hope the ride goes to plan. Maybe you should ask the moderators to pin this to the top of the forum(s) for a couple of days - might bring in a few more £ for him?

Hi all

I just wanted to say a huge thankyou to everyone who has donated so far.

Today we had 15 riders and 7 runners tackling two separate routes, with more mud than I've ever ridden through and some brutal headwinds.

Everyone completed it, and despite some punctures and mechanicals along the way, the riders managed to hunt down and catch up the runners just in time to all ride back to our village together as a group - mission accomplished.

So far I've managed to raise over £1000, and the group as a total have raised around £4300 - way, WAY beyond our expectations.

We'd like to get that to £5000.....

If anyone else would like to donate....it would be hugely appreciated (link in second post).

Thanks mate, and to anyone else who has donated anonymously.

Really close to my target now!

The JustGiving page closes in a few days...if anyone else want to chip in, even just a small amount, I'd be very grateful.

Cheers

Hi all

My JG page has now closed - a MASSIVE thankyou to everyone who donated, I never thought I'd get past a couple of hundred quid, so to finish over £1500 - much of which has come from complete strangers on here - is simply fantastic.

Thanks again, and Happy Christmas all 🙂
