Heya

Had a throughly bad week so far. Ate out Monday nite at a high street itailian chain with some mates. By 12pm I felt rough and started throwing up about 3am. This continued in the pattern of empty stomach, wait for stomach to fill with acid, empty stomach...

Had a nice early docs apointment next day and got an anti nausea injection 'that works in 15 minutes'. I finally stopped throwing up about 3pm with relief!

Little did I know I was not finished with yet. What doesn't come up must go down... As such I have now spent 3 more days flitting between toilet and bed feeling terrible. I am managing drink but barely any food.

Anyway just looking for sympathy really and a public thanks of my brilliant fiancee.

Would U try and tell the restaurant? What will they do?

Nothing now, its too late, if it was a chain they take that stuff seriously and could have had food checked etc but 5 days on they cant do anything...

Or they might have ignored it.

Hope you feel better for the weekend.

Food poisioning really does suck balls. Hope you feel better soon.

You may not be the only person ill if it is as a result of restaurant food poisioning. Might be worth calling the Foods Standards Agency in case a number of people called after eating there that evening (unlikely though).

Report it to your council - they will have a number on their site.

When it happened to me (and others I was eating with) they investigated and reported back to us the probable cause too.

And the woman that owned that particular Indian was head of food science at our local college too 😯

Any of your mates ill too? And can you be sure it was from that restaurant? I thought some kinds of food poisoning take a while to propogate, upto a week.

I was told food poisoning takes much longer than that to have an effect - if true more likely it was lunch. Worth a google if you are interested...

unlikely to be anything you ate at the restaurant .. a couple of hours to make you ill would have to some strong shit.. everyone in the place would be in agony.. your presumable a normally fit healthy young person so any old folk would be DOA if your ill within a couple of hours..
do these restaurants still serve alcholic beverages in warm weather to peeps who perhaps should ease off on thier consumption..
or perhaps that nice sandwich that you had for lunch from the trendy deli with the burd behind the counter?
or maybe ones companions exchanged body fluids with you at some point in the day..

literally a zillion things that could have made you ill..

Food poisoning is a notifiable desease in that the authorities are supposed to keep records and investigate potiential claims.

Can't remember who does it but google will answer you. It is considered fairly serious

I was under the same opinion...didn't think food poisoning could make an appearance that quickly. Could be something over the previous couple of days.

I was once given a disciplinary at work for being off ill...I'd had a huge chinese take away and threw up overnight. I assumed it was food poisoning but my employer said it was too soon so I was making it up. In hindsight I was probably ill simply from eating too much 🙂

norovirus quite possibly.
or, as someone says, that mayo sandwich that was ever so slightly fizzy?

disciplinary for being ill (even through gluttony) sounds a tad harsh!

Disciplinary was because my gf was home from uni (known to work as she and her mum have worked there as well and also the reason for the take away) so my boss decided I had skived off to spend the day with her, despite the fact the gf went shopping together for the day and I spent the day at home. Because they decided I had skived it was deemed that it didn't count as sick. The disciplinary was just a verbal warning and since I couldn't prove different I felt it was easiest just to let her get on with it.

Don't shout about it, or someone'll claim it as a new diet!

Still sucks, mind, but as everyone else says, not much to be done now 🙁

unlikely to be anything you ate at the restaurant

Its a common misconception that it takes a long time, but actually food poisoning can happen very quickly:

If symptoms occur within 1–6 hours after eating the food, it suggests that it is caused by a bacterial toxin or a chemical rather than live bacteria.

from wikipedia

How long does digestive transit take? 8 hrs. How long does it take for an orally administered drug to enter your bloodstream and have an effect? Minutes..

Depending on the type of bug it is common for it to happen any time between a few mins after ingestion, to over 8 hrs, or even weeks for some things.

Catering is my chosen profession so:

Yes tell the restaurant
Yes tell the local authority
Your doctor should have asked for a sample to help determine what it is caused by.
Unlikely to be "spoiled food" as if this is really bad you would taste it and if it was marginal it is unlikely to have manifested so quickly.
Most probably it was contamination of some sort, foreign body - insects, cleaning chemicals maybe, or most likely poor personal hygiene by a staff member e.g. snotty nosed chef not washing his hands etc so may be quite difficult to prove retrospectively.
But do report it.
