Anyone know how quick/easy it is to obtain replacement birth certificates? Is it simply a case of popping to the nearest registry office with some sort of ID? Can they give a new one there and then or does it take weeks to be sent in the post?
The website doesnt seem to help that much.....

Ooops you looked there.
IIRC going to the registry office you were first registered at and you get them very quickly, I'd take passport driving licence and the likes.
Hmmm ... I recall just phoning the registry office in Liverpool and they sent it out very quickly. That doesn't seem right (surely they needed some ID??) but I remember being impressed at the time how efficient they were. They also arranged for me to have that stupid Hague Treaty apostille thing attached for the benefit of the Nazis in Holland.
