Has anyone successfully removed pebble dash from the front of a house ? We live in a small terrace house which was built from London brick in 1906, in the 1970’s the house was pebble dashed (front only). The main method appears to be slowly chip it away but with the big risk of damaging the brick underneath.
That about covers it. The big risk will be damaging the masonry, and also finding out whether they did any 'preparatory' work to the facing brickwork before rendering. I know a couple of acquaintances who've removed pebbledash with ok results.
You might end up having to tuck point afterwards.
House up the road has just finished pulling theirs off. DIY removal, they went slowly, just some pointing came out, I think it looks great in brick but they plan to redo in sand render.
Before removing it, I'd want to understand why the pebble dash, or rather the render it decorates, is there. It might be cosmetic, but it might be because the brick was porous (no cavity) and the walls were damp inside. Understanding why it's there and hence what the substrate is like will help determine how to remove it, even if it doesn't change whether you want to.
