MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
I would like to equip myself for a spot of warm weather bikepacking, I think I would prefer a bivi bag and maybe a tarp, rather than a tent setup.
Can anyone recommend a mat, bag or quilt and bivi bag setup for someone who is about six feet tall and rather broad of shoulder? I have tried a few lightweight sleeping bags and they felt like straight jackets.
Alpkit hunka is quite wide I think
Alpkit Hunka is standard size, the XL is much roomier.
Sleeping mat: Something like this is fine for summer use
I'd go with a quilt rather than a bag, lets you move around more and isn't so restraining. Either the Cumulus 150 or 250
Tarp: Alpkit Rig3.5 if it's just for yourself, Rig7 if you want room for two.
Has to be a PHD bag in the sales. I'm 6ft3 and 16 stone and find the long wide PHD size is perfect. There is an extra wide option as well.
At 6ft you would probably get away with the standard length. There is a wide standard in the bargain box just now.
Wide Minimus Down Sleeping Bag with a collar in water-resistant black Drishell fabric. Superb 900 fillpower European goose down. Weight 635g
£285 - still pricey but absolute top quality.

Many thanks for the suggestions, i will have a look. I looked at getting the hunka xl a while back. They were sold out then and they are sold out now.
not a normal size hunka. Its very tight. Not got a borah (not cheap) and it weights a couple of grams less but is about twice the size!
Does using a quilt mean that you are sleeping directly on the sleeping mat? I like the idea of a quilt, not so claustrophobic.
But isn't it a bit sweaty sleeping on a plastic mat?
Also I have been looking a the Specialized Burra Burra handlebar harness, it appears to be designed with sturdy aluminium clamps and a bracket to hold your own drybag away from the bars and cables etc.
Has anyone any experience of this? What do you use?
We've used a quilt with silk liners.
The ex mod goretex bivvy bags are huge & nice and wide as they are designed to take a person and some kit at the bottom.
