Signing the lease on a flat this evening and I now need to sort out insurance which will cover bikes sharpish: can anyone recommend anyone?

I'm with ING, policy seems as good as the much admired M&S one I had, but about 65% cheaper.

Try Sainsburys bank. Got our bikes worth £2k & £4.5K on the house & contents policy,less than £30 a month the lot.

Don't know how they are pricewise for your place, but we've had ours through Nationwide, and have had to claim a few times. They have always been excellent for service, and haven't quibbled.
