Finally given in after a lot of ums and ahs through out the year and bought one. Currently have Burnout dominator and Splinter Cell essentials (also have Fifa 09 but didn't pay for it as they only had that pack left - that's destined for ebay then).
Any other games I should be looking at?
Chains of Olympus is a good start. The new PSP is out later this year, so there should be a lot of new titles.
My son reckons the need for speed underground game is the best one so far. He also played a puzzle style game where you move a blob of stuff around the screen which I really liked.

I bought a psp for playing dvd rips on train journeys, music and puzzle games.
If you like puzzle games I can recommend
Crush and Echochrome
The Lego games are OK - Batman is better than Indiana Jones
Call of duty has nice game play.
Im looking for some more now too so will keep an eye on recommendations in here.
Wipeout. Awesome flying/driving/racing game.
Loco Roco. Surreal 'platform' puzzle game with addictive music (possibly the 'blob' puzzle game?)
Daxter. Platform/shooter.
The Grand Theft Auto games are great conversions if you like that kind of game.
