Okay, so GOOD is a bit of subjective term in musical circles, but it seems that most of the decent music (to my ears) on my eye-pod, seems to be fairly, or vaguely, depressing.

A small randomised selection of my daily faves now:
e.g.
Van Morrison (Veedon Fleece)
The National (High Violet)
PJ Harvey (Let England Shake)
My Brightest Diamond (Bring me the Workhorse)
Radiohead (In Rainbows / KoL)

It would be nice if I could avoid slumping into depression daily via the medium of my ears, yet also remain entertained and enthralled.

The closest I can find to meeting this happy-yet-interesting ideal, is maybe Toots & the Maytals, but waaaaay too much lively dub-reggae probably tends to do my head in, eventually.

Suggestions, please!

Does this not raise questions about the nature of happiness? Are you looking for 'eudaimonic' happiness (via contemplation/reflection), bubblegum capitalism, or happiness that comes through the blowing off of excess? Perhaps something that combines all, without being too esoteric?

My answer: De La Soul's [url=

Feet High and Rising![/url]

Summertime, both the Gershwin classic and the Will Smith one seem to work for me.

almost each and every one of those videos above are not viewab le in germany!!!! sodding copyright krauts.

check out the Sierra Leone Refugee Allstars. a group of refugees that got together in a camp and made some music. sort of puts some perspective on things; that those who have nothing/are in a shitty situation can be so happy.

then check out this little documentary....

Thanks guys! Some great stuff in there.. Particularly lovin' The Staple Singers and Sierra Leone Refugee Allstars.

That bazerkoid bit of happy hardcore by DJ hixxy made me pmsl

Soul, funk and reggae feature strongly here... as I suspected ๐Ÿ™‚

Agree with saxabar up there, De La Soul is pretty much the best uplifting music ever.

And the Beasties, obviously.

It might just be that I saw them live, but I love The Go! Team. Loads of energy and always makes me smile when I hear them.

You cant get happier than this track from "Lack of afro", not the official video but the dancing is ACE!!

Loving the sample from "my girl" too, which it does pay credit to in the middle.

When I'm out taking the dog for a walk I like listening to zero 7- simple things. Really chilled out, easy going music.
