What are people using for tracking their cycle routes on their Android phones?

I'm after something that gives some speed stats, distance, would be nice to have altitutde-related data too (route profile?) ...

Everytrail Pro - better website and photohosting than endomondo for me.

Yup, endomondo here too. Make sure you switch everything off you're not using (wifi, 3G, bluetooth) to max the battery life

clubber - you don't need to use the "live sharing" option.

Has anyone developed an app yet that kind of works as a Sat Nav device. ie you upload a gpx file etc and start riding and it tells you when you next need to turn left or right?

I've tried a few for the map capabilities, MyTrail seems to be performing great offline at the moment.

Oh I know, I'm just always quite suprised that people do it when they're out and leave it completely open.

RunKeeper can also be used for cycling, IIRC. I installed it but never got around to using it as I was trying out My Tracks and Endomondo first.

Oh aye - the other thing with Endomondo - and maybe the others - is to restrict who can see your routes, especially if they start and/or end at home.

Endoguessmo here.

Doesn't viewranger have a tracking facility? Have that but not used it yet.

The Bike Hub Cycle Journey Planner does this.
Available on the iPhone App Store and Android Marketplace

It is based on the CycleStreets maps (which in turn are based on OpenStreetMap) so how good it is will vary depending on how good OSM coverage near you is.

CycleStreets also have their own app and recommend another droid one called BikeRoute.
See http://www.cyclestreets.net/mobile/

Grahams - how does it work though, does it only work on roads ie it computes at the next junction you need to turn left, or does it take yur GPS track and know that in 50 metres you need to turn left, so would just work if your were riding in a big field?

It's really for planning and following routes on roads and marked cycle paths/tracks.

I confess I've not used it in anger, but I don't think it lets you just follow a GPX track you supply. Can't see any option like that on the iPhone version anyway.

everytrail will allow you to upload a gpx. It won't offer 'turn right' type navigation - you'd have to look at it to see where you're going.

clubber yeah thats what I thought, bit difficult when its in your camelbak.

I guess though if your in a new area its worth finding a handle bar mount etc so you can ride routes passed on by locals.

Let me know if you find a decent handlebar mount - I'm still looking for one that is rainproof and won't drop my phone on the ground when I go over a bump.

I currently just carry my phone in a Camelbak phone pouch and check it when I need to.

You can sort of use Mytracks to follow a route.

Use BikeHike or similar and output it in to a gpx format. You can then import it in to google maps online. Once you've done this, you can have it as a map layer on MyTracks (I think) or google maps on the phone and follow it that way (not turn by turn nav, but should give you a good idea of where you need to go).
