Off on a stag do. More interested in good atmosphere and nice bier than a traditional stag do.
As per the Newcastle thread, places to avoid would be as much use a places to go.

avoid west street.
running parallel however is division st which has a new real ale bar called 'the hop' which is pretty good.
for old man pubs in the area, the red deer and bath hotel are close by and do good real ale.

division street also has more bars that would do as you wander down it into town
