Our sleepy village has finally caught up with the early 2000's and installed spangly new fibre at the local exchange.
So... any thoughts on good (or bad) fibre ISPs?
According to cable.co.uk we have the choice of TalkTalk, BT, Fuel, Zen, John Lewis (??), plusnet, SSE, Sky, DirectSave and xln. (No Virgin Cable unfortunately)
I've always used Zen in the past for my ADSL on the grounds that they have excellent uptime, low contention, and very good technical support, but I'm aware that their prices are pretty high.
I'm using zen and BT. Zen is fine (and I get a static IP which was one of the reasons I went with them) but BT is also not bad - not needed any CS from them and uptime has be great.
TBH I think that, unless you need specific features, I'd go with BT as they do very good prices for the first 12 months.
Chooes the fastest and cheapest available using Uswitch then review again when the intro offer expires. Was with Talk talk for years and they were fine, been with Sky for the last 3 also fine.
Yeah you get a static IP on Zen ADSL too, which I do like. Makes it much easier to ssh in from work etc.
BT seems to offer TV etc for similar prices though so that might be good (though to be honest I'm pretty happy with freeview - we don't watch much telly).
Sky: not keen on giving the Murdoch family any of my money.
Been with BT as an ISP for a few years now and they've been excellent.
I'm with Sky and am seriously considering switching.
Currently paying circa £70 a month and had a letter yesterday saying their TV price will be going up £3 a month as they are buying so many programs that I never watch. Have just got off the phone and within 20 seconds was offering me 'a fantastic' (in his words) £30.40 a month for 'original' tv and normal broadband for 10 months, then goes up to £45 a month - but it puts me in another 12 month contract with them. Drives me crackers.
BT has an offer of £30 a month, which includes some tv, and 38mbps broadband. They have a £50 activation fee but offer a £125 Sainsbury's card, so could make some money on the deal!
