I've stayed here a couple of times, a bit dated but otherwise clean and good food (well it was 3 years ago when I used to go twice a month)

a slight detour perhaps? it's in Cornwall and there is a road that goes all the way to Devon (admittedly somewhat meandering)

Nutt.. again thanks.. but not this time.. we'll be in (near) Liskeard...we have to get out of our own cottage on saturday a.m. and we have to be somewhere up on Dartmoor sunday so just want a place , fairly local, fairly nice, to kip for one night.

I'm fond of the gift shoppe that is the Jamaica Inn, only because I like mugs with pictures of pirates on them you understand. Oh not sure if it helps but I also noticed signage advising that there is, of all the curiosities, a chair museum around those parts too!

that doesn't really help you does it?

We were down in Saltash on Sat, for a uni mates homecoming/30th (he's in the Navy). The rest of my mates had booked in at a Travellodge at Saltash services. Dear god what a bloody awful place. Avoid this, even if it means sleeping naked on Dartmoor.

mrNutt.. the dartmoor inn is more to mrs G. liking.... I wouldnt be above sleeping naked on dartmoor tho.

taki.. I know that travellodge only too well... ok... only because they have a petrol station on the forecourt where I always fill up the rental before departing from the glory that is Plymouth International Airport. 🙂

Tried to Dartmoor Inn once and it was dreadful. Pricey and cack.

This is much better:

http://www.twobridges.co.uk/hotel - it's a hotel but has a cosy bar.

If you want top notch, try the Endsleigh Hotel nearish Tavistock - spent two nights there and the food was amazing - run by "The Hotel Inspector" Alex Polizzi.

ohhh... I've made notes of those...

I may as well say.. we are spending a week at our own cottage, and then booked three nights into Gidleigh Park ( 10year wedding anniv.!! ) but as they were full up on the saturday night we needed someplace just for that one night.. someplace I guess after all not TOO comfy..

surfmats two offerings.. doesnt look like we would ever want to leave there..

The second suggestion is the best hotel we've ever stayed in by a fair margin!

The first one is just "very nice indeed."
