Best to avoid the gardenline one we have from aldi, it's got a Chinese engine which is a bit temperamental.
Ours currently runs on idle but stalls when you rev it for cutting.
It's probably a blocked carb issue.

I have the Bosch AHS 52 Li, quite happy with it. The battery lasts for ages and it seems to cope with most stuff. It helps if you have other tools from the range to share the 18v batteries, I now have a drill, strimmer and leaf blower all using the same system which helps a lot.

Good experiences with the one from the Ryobi one family, espescially with the Lithium battery. The strimmer isn't bad either and you can use the batteries for all their other tools.

Don't expect the power that you get with a mains one though.

I have the Bosch AHS 48 Li and it's brilliant, long battery life and reasonably powerful for a normal hedge/pyracantha type shrub. It's a bit whiney when working but I think that's normal. As above, the battery is the same as my cordless drill one.
