Why does it annoy me that on they refer to (albeit legally acquired) family members as SIL, MIL, FIL etc?

Dunno; why [i]does[/i] it annoy you that forum users use abbreviations instead of several words of multiple syllables?
And I'm heartened by the majority response to the OP's thread; not at all what she was expecting, I'm sure.

Bit harsh shooting the kids - start wth the irresponsible parents.
It's embarrassing when townies let you down in the countryside. Makes you understand why farmers try to close rights of way.
