We will be in touch
I'm trying to make a video with that terrible / annoying / hateful song:
Na-noo went the little green frog one day,
Na-noo went the little green frog!
Na-noo went the little green frog one day,
So we all went na-noo-na!
Now we know frogs go: la-dee-da-dee-da, la-dee-da-dee-da, la-dee-da-dee-da!
Now we know frogs go: la-dee-da-dee-da,
They never go na-noo-na!
etc
I'd like to record each child in my class singing a line and then edit it together. Each child sings their line(s) so get their moment in the sun. I'll project the video on nice big screens in the auditorium and probably have the children sing along live with the recording. They are however terrible singers so it'll be nice to have the backing video and vocals.
So, is there anything I should think of or be aware of?
Are jump cuts suitable or are they too 'jumpy' for something like this? Better alternatives?
Is it better to have children singing in entirely different locations or the same and with the camera in the same place? Hand held or tripod?
I'm good at following youtube tutorials and can do basic sound editing but have never done any video editing. Is this a tricky thing to achieve and have it look good? It's for an assembly so I will be judged on my work. I'd rather come up with different ideas than produce something amateurish.
Thanks as always
Seen a few as installation art works...
Kids have headphones on listening to the song and sing the whole verse etc, should make it easier to cut together. Something with multi track audio would help a lot, maybe cut it into several groups who sound similar then edit the rendered ones together.
Tripod or hand held depending on how you want it to look
Thanks Mike.
I like the video you posted but am after something where the children appear one at a time and are on the screen by themselves. It's important to them and to parents. This seems like a nice quick way of doing it. Having them pass the mic along and repeat a line each takes forever and it's painful / expensive seeing the mic dropped.
yeah, if you can get them to sing the whole thing one at a time then lots of editing, using a simple pic in pic mask would let you have individuals pop up over the backing vid (and let you couple some up to ease the impact)
Common technique.
So lock off your tripod, make sure frame is the same between shots (focal length) etc. Different locations as you want to make sure it jumps appropriately between kids. Same location will look like a jump cut. It also adds variety.
Get mic in within 12 inches, close as you can.
The key is to record longer than one line for each child to give you multiple edit options. I would get each kid to do the whole lot so you can pick the best line with best kid at the best edit point.
This is not too hard. Synching with your backing track might cause issues as you can't really have it playing when recording as it will sound awful. Unless you've got ear pieces for the kids or a autocue / prompter, neither of which you are likely going to have access too.
Thing is people will love it for what it is.
