[Closed] Questions for classifieds- best method of payment?

Sorry for the mundane topic, but I am am about to have the mother of all clearouts and am wondering what is the fastest and most secure method of receiving payment for bits.

Though I've bought bits and pieces over the years from the classifieds, I don't have a paypal account, and am not sure about the whole fees thing for sellers. I know a lot of people still use it though. If people pay on paypal as a 'gift' does the seller pay fees? If so do sellers just figure the fees into the prices they charge?

Or, if paypal is a bit crap, what are the alternatives when selling stuff? Bank transfers work I imagine, but I never see many people asking for a bank transfer when selling/buying things. Are there other options, apart from good old cheque in the post? On balance, what is your preferred method of buying?

Sorry for the boring amateurish questions, but the paypal site isn't that clear, and just trying to figure out the best way of clearing out half of my life for the past couple of decades... so any wisdom appreciated.

Most people use paypal and select the gift option - seems to mean no fees for anyone.

Paypal as a gift is free, but you have no comback as a buyer.

I've used Paypal, Bank Transfer, cash on collection and cheques, both as a buyer and seller. No probs so far........ ๐Ÿ˜€

OK, I'm not sure I understand the gift thing, paypal has me confused, but I'll investigate further. [oh, and thanks both]

yeah, I've done all and worked on trust with cheques. It's been perfectly fine for me.

gift is an option as you are going through the paypal payment process as a buyer - it's really designed for sending cash to someone as a gift rather than buying things, hence why if something does go wrong Paypal don't offer any support in putting it right. the seller (receiver of money) doesn't pay paypal fees when the buyer selects the gift option.

bank transfers are the best IMO - quick, easy, less info given than if you wrote a cheque to someone...

OK, looks like i will sign up for paypal then, incase people want to do things that way. Bank transfer and cheque have worked for me in the past, but I've always been dubious of cheques, especially when chasing things up with the seller.
