Looking to put a cat flap in this door, but not sure how to do it...
The decorative pieces aren't stuck on, they are moulded into it

What would STW do?

Trying to avoid drilling through the walls (done it before with a core bit at my sisters - very slow and messy)

All the windows in the house are double glazed too so can't go through them.

One suggestion would be to replace the door with a wooden one I guess. My pal lives by herself so some safety consideration there I guess

If the door is the same as ours the plastic bit in the middle can be replaced with a flat piece that can be easily cut with a jigsaw.

I fitted one in a uPVC door without drama, so it's certainly doable. It was a single panel though, not ridged like that.

As above - doors are modular, so you can replace the centre panel with a flat piece, a sheet of glass or whatever.

There will be some beading (most likely on the inside) that can be persuaded out - take the removed panel to a UPVC trade suppliers and they will sell you a replacement flat panel*.

*unless you live on a sink estate, in which case replace with a sheet of plywood.

Why can't your pal get up and let the cat in and out? We have two cats who are in and out all evening, which is a pain in the wotsit admittedly but it means that A - we have control of what cats enter our house and B - we don't have to destroy the integrity of the door. Apart from the evenings the cats are lazy and spend most of the day sleeping on a bed or a chair somewhere. They stay in at night.

As above - you can pick up the flat panels on ebay for relatively little cost.
Fit flap to new panel and then replace panel in door.

You'll need to know how thick the existing panel is before purchase.

we have control of what cats enter our house

You can get key-coded flaps which respond to a dongle on on the collar.

As above - we had our door & windows replaced a few years ago. We wanted to put a cat flap into one of the doors & it was actually in good condition, so we just chose a new skin that had a flat lower portion, rather than the mouldings shown in your image.

The skin will be upvc with a polystyrene core in all likelihood so you can just stick the template on, check it, measure it, check it again, re-measure, check once more, start cutting with a jigsaw, check again, finish cutting.....

The outside of our door now has quite a step down to the floor - too much for the cats to manage while negotiating the cat flap at the same time, so I've put a 'temporary' step in place (that's been 'temporary' for at least a couple of years now!!

We used one of those cat flaps that detects the cats microchips to lock out other cats. Took them a few days to get used to it, but it works extremely well.

EDIT - this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/SureFlap-Ltd-Microchip-Door--White/dp/B003EGIM3O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480420957&sr=8-1&keywords=microchip+cat+flap+sureflap

doesn't require a collar with a magnet or anything - just uses the microchip in the cats neck...

also remember that uPVC doors usually have a metal sheet down the middle that borks those magnet-operated catflaps. They still open, but you have to tape down the locking mechanism. The microchip activated ones work fine tho.

There will be some beading (most likely on the inside)

It looks like an externally-beaded frame (assuming your pic is taken from inside) so the panel might be stuck to super-sticky security tape (although it looks like a rubber gasket on the pic). if it is tape then you'll need to cut the panel loose with a stanley blade around the tape. Over and over again. It's a right bugger to do.

I used to work in a factory where we manufactured pvc doors.

I also know that I can break into your house by simply removing the pvc panel from your shite front door 😉

She needs a cat flap cos she comes to stay at my house for a few days (we stay in different towns) at a time and her cats have murder-rages that must be fulfilled.

Good info on the door panels - I was not aware!

Dunno about STW but on eBay you put them in the wall.

Straight over the raised bits, with a raised flap?
