Off to Cardiff for a meeting soonish and tacking on a day at BPW afterwards.
Does anyone have any good recommendations for a pub with rooms or hotel near a good pub somewhere between, or convenient, the two? Would prefer something with a bit more character than Merthyr Travel Lodge type places!

Close and cheap
The Village Hotel, Cardiff. Okay not got a lot of character, but easy access for the M4 & A470, you can pop into Whitchurch for a decent pub. And also near by is Castell Coch / Taff Trail if you wanted a quick spin in the evening.
I knew I could count on STW! Thanks, one and all! Some good suggestions here, but the Gwaelod looks about spot on. On site brewery, and some good beers on the taps in the pictures.
Happy to have a few more if anyone else has any as back up, though.
