It's way better than the last one.

Sadly Sean is an even worse actor.

And who on earth wore a Specials t shirt in 1988?

Ive still got one and wear it In 2011 , Painfully slow episode but Lol and combo's scene deserves a BAFTA on It's own. Every scene with Vicky McClure and Stephen Graham is dynamite.

Noticed a few discrepancies in this.

The clothes don't look right at all for 1988 - look like 83/84
The trailer had "what difference does it make" (the smiths) - which was actually released in 1984
There was a bmw e34 in it which i am sure was a 1990 model due to the wheels fitted - but there again i could be wrong - its happened before

I'm impressed, I simply enjoyed it.

The prison scene was fantastic ! Loving the series so far.

Regarding the clothes not looking right for 1988 and more like 1984.

it's set in a poor area of Yorkshire, not exactly the fashion capital of Europe so maybe everything being "bang up to date" was not the look they were going for ?

And the smiths song, I still listen to that now and its 28 years later. Good music last more than 3 or 4 months 😉

Not according to the wife they dont 😀

Which is exactly where i was brought up and it just doesn't seem right to me regardless of poor yorkshire not being bang up to date -

And the smiths song, I still listen to that now and its 28 years later. Good music last more than 3 or 4 months

The whole reason i noticed 88 was because of the trailer using What difference does it make.
That song is probably the tune that has had the biggest influence on my early music tastes since first seeing the boys do it on totp in 84.

I can still remember hearing that guitar for the very first time and every time i hear it now i am brought back to my living room aged 16 fixed to the tv -

I am still a huge smiths fan to this day (saw them live 3 times before they split) and still have every single they released on 12inch vinyl - all original pressings (plus some of the early 7's because of the different B sides.)
It was because of the smiths i have gone on to form or join a few bands myself over the years.

Dont want to sound like a prat but music is a huge part of my life and i had to respond to the "music lasts more than 3 or 4 months" line.

You are so right - it does - that particular song has been with me 28 years too

This is probably the longest post i have ever made on this forum 🙂

Off to bed now

D

The film, last series and what I have seen so far of this one have many tiny little anachronisms of music, sets and props, but doesn't really distact from the whole story/script/ace-ness IMO.

and I love the Smiths.

Regarding continuity, in the first episode, the girls house that shawn went to had christmas lights outside, those LEDs thats hang down. surely these weren't available in 1988? the only outdoor lights i remember back then are big, coloured old style bulbs?

I think getting those details right does matter, and I am a Shane Meadows fan boy.

Details like the t shirt, cars music, in a drama with a year in the title, should match it. Having grown us in those years (4 years older than SM, which may explain it) it just feels like he's either tried and hot it wrong, CBA, or just didn't care.

Doesn't ruin it, but there's such joy when someone gets it right.

Yeah I had similar thoughts. I can't really remember anyone having outdoor decorations then. Having said that it doesn't take anything away from the acting. Lol's acting is particularly moving for me as she reminds me a lot of someone I don't really want to be reminded of.

Loving the killing 2 too. My Danish is coming along leaps and bounds to the extent that I now know the Danish for 'Facked-up'

Just watched '86 for a bit of catch up.
A bit powerful at the end, no?

Always nice to see Maradona's goal.

Twas pretty good , fairly powerful stuff. Roll on 'This Is England 90' should be a bit cheerier with all the Disco Biscuits on the go.

A bit of an odd ending, clearly setting up for another (if this is widely known, my excuse is that I've been out of the country), EDIT, which I see from above is happening.
Powerful TV and thoroughly enjoyed it, nothing quite like that in Spain.
