My suggestions would be to either park in Dalbeattie town park itself and bike out, means you can visit cafes on way back.
Park in Kipford and enter forest @ Barnbarroch @post 29 via forest track.
Park in either Rockcliffe or Colvend and enter forest via multi user forest track up the side of Colvend village hall. Post 45, Smithland. Good cafes at both Colvend and Rockcliffe.
As the news/press release says forest is not closed, just beware at trailhead end there might be some dodgy looking folk running about with bits of paper in their hands, not watching where they are going 🙄
