There's a couple of models in selected colours with 70% off in their archive sale this weekend so just £37 for the Fraser 18l which is an absolute bargain (plus I think the extra 10% on first order if you sign up works).

No side pockets but the Fraser has removable sternum and waist straps so also good for day hikes, cycling, work, shopping etc. Great bags ime, and we have c10 in the family, and a good company.

Look nice bags, and in the market for a nice small day sack.

But over £100 for 15ltr what makes them so special?

Made/designed in Cumbria. Look quite nice, ideal for commuting for City types

Other than that I don't know what all the fuss is about

No fuss, just really nicely made, quality bags for c£35. We've about 10 in the family and everyone loves them so thought I'd mention here (as they sell for more used on eBay).

Think they used to be made in Cumbria and are still based there. Good customer service ime too.

I've got a couple, will shortly have a couple more!

They're not techy as such just a bit nicer than than the usual options. I think of them more as general outdoors bags rather than proper mountain kit.

Just bought 2 of those 18l jobs for commuting and for the missus on the Motorbike.
Hopefully they are as nice as they look
And 36 buck won’t break the bank

Crikey they look poor even for the discounted price, what’s all the fuss about? Looks more fashion than function.

It was a genuine question - why are quite simple bags £100 and more full price, is there something I’m missing?

Thanks for this PSA, which has come at the perfect time. Last night I was just thinking as I packed my shopping into my 12l rucksack that it was looking a bit old and a bit too small.

Even if you can get one...

a Veshmeshok

https://www.epicmilitaria.com/original-russian-veshmeshok-bag.html

Used all the time even on the bike.

Or make one 🙂

The millican reminds me of the russian sack.

For those that have one of these, how waterproof are they?

Presumably if they've got a laptop sleeve, they're reasonably good at keeping rain out?

The bionic canvas is impregnated with paraffin wax and definitely water resistant ime but not waterproof. I've never tested one in a sustained downpour but they've coped with showers ok.

Great PSA, thanks!

We always end up taking one of my manky riding packs out for days out, so have just bought the 18l Oli zip pack to use for general family days out.

Cheers.

These are starting to arrive now from what I've heard so hope folk are happy. I bought 5 and they arrived via DPD within 2 working days.

I fear for my DPD one...turned up, rummaged in the back of the van for 5 minutes and then declared "he was just tidying up" and drove off!!

Mine arrived today, very happy other than I measured my laptop wrong so won’t fit in sleeve. For the money I’m keeping it though!

I bought a 15L Fraser in Tarn for my wife and it arrived yesterday - she hated it.

TBH I'm not massively impressed either. Aluminum buckles look cool but don't really work properly and the design is a bit meh (don't blame OP though was a good PSA)

I guess its worth the £35 I paid but no more.

Mine arrived yesterday & I'm quite pleased with it.

It seems well made, the material feel durable & it is nice & discreet.
I suspect that I'll still be using it in 10 years time.

I have a couple of issues - one of which doesn't really affect me but is a bit odd & the second might not actually be a problem once i start using it.
The first is that it claims the bag will take a 15" laptop via a sleeve with zip on the side. But, my work laptop is 15" and there is no way in hell that laptop is going anywhere near fitting into the opening provided. I've just tried it with my 10" Samsung tablet & even that won't fit into the aperture....?! But, I don't intend to use it for carting a laptop about.
Secondly, it's very shallow but long, so might be a pain when digging around for stuff that has fallen to the bottom. The top doesn't even open that wide, so I think it's going to be a case of opening it up, sticking your hand in & fishing around.

I've never really owned a bag like this, so it's hard to say how useful it will end up being.

Thanks to Deepreddave for the PSA. My 18L olive Oli arrived yesterday. It cost £34.50 including taxes and delivery, so I reckon fair price. I wouldn't be happy having paid nearly a ton more than that though. Also, as above, I tried my 13 incher (laptop...) in the side pocket and it didn't fit.

Need to go out for a yomp to test it now.

Cheers

@stumpy01
I've just pulled out my 18l Fraser and my old 15" laptop fits in the laptop sleeve but it is very tight. The zipped aperture measures c16" on mine so not sure why a 10" tablet doesn't fit.

@topper
My 15" laptop fits in the inside rear sleeve of my 18l Oli too (the pocket is c10"*15" so pretty much exactly matches my laptop). The Oli's description doesn't refer to an external laptop sleeve, the external zipped pocket is small as it's just for valuables..
