If you're in the market

Dixon's have dropped the price from £400 to £89

Looks like they've all gone. It's rumoured that amazon will drop their prices to match this soon.

Were they running WebOS perhaps?

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/08/18/hp_kills_webos_tablets_and_phones/

http://www.silicon.com/technology/networks/2011/08/22/hp-touchpad-firesale-spreads-to-the-uk-39747847/

Not such a bargain if they are a complete technological dead end.

Also it would seem they getting rid as they use their own OS which is not longer being supported but theirs rumors of an Android OS fix coming out for them.

Yes they will be the webOS ones but still a bargin for a little web surfing device. they did the same in canada over the weekend, $99, all retailers either sold out really quickly or sent them back to HP.

GrahamS: Yep they are.

I reckon they are still not a bad deal. It'll be well built and I doubt you'll get anything better for that sort of price if its just wanted for email/browsing the web on the sofa type stuff.

A decent digital picture frame is not going to be much cheaper than that.

because HP screwed up and decided to abandon ship a few months after releasing their new OS and tablet!

Yeah fair enough. If there is a possibility they can be rooted to install Android at a later date then it might well be a bargain.

Did i read recently that hp are getting out of ALL pcs etc and going for same markets as IBM in future ?

If so, no support but otherwise sounds a steal

Scaredy - yes they announced to the world that they were getting out of the hardware business and becoming a service company.

Seems like (amateur) work is under way to put Android on these touchpads.

Far as I'm aware - I'm going to cry otherwise. They'd be mad if they did, they're market leaders.

They've pulled out of the desktop, tablet and mobile phone markets, not "hardware."

Anyone know if you could run a decent graphic design program on these? Something that would let you draw out detailed building plans, including measurements, fairly easily?

there probably isn't any such program for web OS, autocad does a version of their software for android and iOS, never used it though.

the specs look pretty similar to most top end smart phones so android port should be a piece of cake. Especially Android 3.

With the slight technical hitch that Honeycomb (the build of Android for tablets) is not open source so they don't have that code to port.

Just gambled and bought one at full price at Argos hoping price will reduce overnight. If not it goes back on their 30 day money back offer.

Have heard a rumour that HP will refund everyone the difference, so you might be safe whatever MF. This could just be in America though.

Currys have just changed their options so that you can select home delivery now rather than trying to find a store with stock

Just ordered a 32gb for 115.99

Looks like its been removed altogether from Dixons and the PC world sites. Currys is showing the 32GB one available for reserve and collect but I've tried stores in 5 different cities and its out of stock everywhere.

Was mostly academic for me though as my Vega running Honeycomb does everything I need it to, and I suspect the OH would've killed me for spending even more dinero on technology!

I ordered one from Amazon at about 10 pm yesterday, 32 Gb model for £430. Have emailed them this morning to ask about the possibility of refunding the difference, otherwise it'll just go straight back. Worth a go, and with Amazon I have no fears about them not taking it back and refunding - I'll not even open the box until I know what they'll charge me for it.

I've got an email confirmation but it does have ........

We will email you again when your order is confirmed. All orders are subject to stock availability.

at the bottom of it

just got an email .............

Thank you for your recent Currys order.

Unfortunately we may have a problem with progressing your order within the timescale indicated on our website. We will contact you shortly to discuss the matter with you, but in the meantime please accept our apologies for the potential delay.

Followed by another one .............

We are now preparing your Currys order for delivery.

so it's anyone's guess whether I'll get it or not

Love it - HP have probably increased their user base by 1000% by discontinuing the product. 😀

I checked one of our distributors last night to see if they had cheap stock and they had over 1000 but all at full price. Today, no stock at all. Not even listed on the website.

Argos aren't saying if/when they'll reduce the price... and they reckon if I buy one and the price does drop, they won't refund the difference (and they reckon 30-day return guarantee wouldn't apply either??), but you'd have to protected by distance selling regs wouldn't you?

Psychle - I had this arguement with a colleague this morning, Argos have said they won't accept returns unless faulty and won't necessarily go with the price drop. I think this is why HP said that some places would do a full refund if you've just bopugh and other places would do a partial refund of the difference.

Psykie - the listing on Argos doesn't say it is excluded from their 30 day policy and as you say, distance selling rules also apply. If you look on the Argos site it is quite clear that they would have to honour refunds.
