PS3 seems to not want to read game discs anymore, what are my options?
Ive tried a reset, and a restore to factory, but nae luck.
How much is a new drive? or better to sell on as scrap/for parts?
Think its only a 60GB model and CEX would give me £32 for it working so probably not worth the bother fixing?
Backup everything to ps plus
Buy new (well, preowned) PlayStation 3
Restore data to new PS3
Continue as normal.

i already restored it to factory settings and deleted everything
So just bin it then?
PS4!
if you don't want to play any of your PS3 games ever again.PS4!
Or take a punt on a replacement Bluray drive for £25-ish?
I fitted a new drive head to a fat one once. Cost about £30 or something for the part and was relatively easy to fix. Just unscrewing things.
Where do I get this drive head?
I am thinking to just cut my losses, sell all the games, controllers etc and put ps3 on ebay for £15 for parts.
dont really have time for gaming anymore, but would love a PS4/xbox one at some point
ebay, like most spares.
A lens cleaning disc might well be the best place to start, rather than simply replacing the drive.
Maybe the blue ray is out. Get it repaired unless you can buy a second hand one.
I won't be buying a future ps5 as I find the Xbox us backwards compatible but did pay for playing Crash Bandicoot in HD.
Try turning it upside-down.
Selling a PS4 for £100, no box, slightly chewed controller (just the rubber mounts on the thumb sticks), cant remember what games its got but its a dust collector now - an non stealth thread hijack option...
I had a similar issue with ours a few months ago.
Wouldn't read discs, discs were struggling to get in and out of the slot.
I took a screwdriver to it (there's a lot of screws) and opened it up.
After battling through several years accumulation of dust I'd nearly given up when I managed to open up the top of the disc drive and found a 2p coin stuck to the magnet!
Turns out our 2yr old had decided to hide it in there.
Worked fine once that was out.

Probably the cause of the OPs issue. There'll be vids on youtube on how to clean the lense (i did an old xbox 360 a few years back that worked but wouldn't read discs - still works now)
