How do I find out if a residential property officially exists, without alerting the powers that be that it appears to exist?

Should be on the land registry.gov website. Its free for basic info or a few quid for more details.

house or flat?

house - royal mail post code finder would be a start.

Other than that find someone who works at the land registry and befriend them and get them to find out for you.

^^^ been a while since I was on the land registry site so may well have more features now.

If it doesn't appear on the landregistry.gov website then you could download the titleplan for the neighbouring properties. £4 each.

Not all properties are registered with the land registry. Wasn't mandated until 1970 somethings. And only gets added to the land reg when its next sold etc.

But yes, you've aroused suspicion, spill..... ;-P

A building in the grounds of a large residential property has been converted and someone is living there. All bills, council tax etc are done via the address of the main property and the converted one isn't on the postcode register etc. So, I'm wondering how to find out if it exists from a legal point of view without alerting 'them'.
