I met two dog walkers with fourteen dogs under very loose control. OK, this was up on the Wilts Downs, on a bridleway in open country and one could here them coming from half a mile away. It did lead me to wonder if there are any recommendations on numbers, eg from some Nat Fed of Dog Walkers, or whatever, perhaps from the point of public liability.

This is our LA's code of conduct.

Numbers limit is expressed as being 'within limits of insurance' so no actual limits.

Wife is a dog walker. The absolute maximum number of dogs you can insure for walking(that we could find) was/is 6.
That's for one person and includes your own dogs(can't walk 6 customers dogs and your own two).

Were they professional walkers?

Our friend is licensed and inspected by Stirling council, she has strict limits on the number of dogs she can look after and walk. Her own pet is taken into account on numbers.

It does seem the fashion to have more dogs at the moment.
I too am fed up of dogs and their sh*t - its the main problem my schools face getting pupils outdoors, often in school grounds.

I am slowly realising that the argument "it's only a few, giving the rest of us a bad name" may not actually be true - I think a significant proportion of dog owners do not clean up, especially once outside of what they see as a formal park. I am also fed up of the expectation that all the parks and green space are for dog walking - and that children, schools, riders etc should defer to them. Again a year or two back I would say this was one or two oddball dog owners, I am now thinking its a good proportion. And as a final point to my strop, I am also aware of how much damage 'trail dogs' in the hills and trails are causing - especially to ground nesting birds and small mammals. 😈

I'm nearly at the point where I'm going to punch some ignorant ****er in the face if I catch them letting their pet shit all over the pavement near our house.

Granted they probably wont feel it but it should make them aware how pissed off I'm getting.

****s

Thanks, all: so a code of conduct is just a recommendation, and the walkers may be borderline on liability insurance. There really seemed an awful lot of dogs for two people to control when running free, and I wonder if a pack mentality takes over.

And I'll add that I gave up volunteering at one Wildlife Trust location when I saw it was mostly used by visitors as a dog toilet.
