So the power in my parents garage tripped out and they didn't realise for a couple of days (garage circuit has its own RCD unit so didn't affect the house's power) and the freezer that's in the garage defrosted
They are looking to see what caused the circuit to trip but also want a way of being alerted if it happens again
Looking online i came across this which has an alarm and sends a message via wifi (has a built in back up battery for these features) there are no reviews on this product so i thought id ask on here if anyone has seen or has one like it?
Plug the wi-fi router into the garage circuit, instant alert at £0
You can get self-resetting RCDs from AliExpress. No idea if they'd be legally compliant in the UK though (Tomzin is actually quite good quality and I'd trust the RC side, but the self-resetting may be problematic). If they trip two or three times in quick succession they stay tripped.
Or you could use a NC contactor, a 9V battery, and a warning buzzer.
Alarm bells ringing with reference to GFCI, the American term for our RCD.
So yes, its American blade socket on front, and thus be American plug on the back.
So whether it would be universal mains and work on 230vac needs checking out.
Otherwise just the thing for the OP's situation.
fit one of those emergency exit lights on the outside of the garage. If the power goes, the emergency light comes on (for 3 hrs)?
