...couldn't even sell it for a £1!
Perhaps it's too crowded a market
Poundland is doing OK by the looks of it, perhaps Poundworld just expanded to far trying to take on the world
I think the problem was their complicated pricing structure.
just heard a spokesman on the radio. He was blaming Brexit (loss of strength of the pound internationally) and the buyers not understanding what the customers wanted.
In time there will be only one shopping chain left and that will be Tesco.
and maybe starbucks &/or costa.
Admittedly I've not been in one for years but aren't they just filled with completely useless tat more often than not made of plastic? Maybe if the rest of them went as well, it would divert some stuff from landfill.
Damn you 99p store.

This.
I hear the 99p store are in talks to buy them?
Management say there WILL be change
😀

pound bakery have recently increased the price of bread rolls to £1.20 each, perhaps poundland should do similar, but last week i was in there they where selling stuff off at 50p

pretty sure that what most of their customers wanted WAS Brexit
Nothing to do with Brexit. More councils killing the high street and people shopping online. I know people that would buy the same cheap tat of Ali express to save £1.
Will there be a sale?
300+stores ..and I don't think I have ever seen one..no big loss in my world .
How many more years do you think it will be before every major retailer has just one concept store per region ..somewhere where you can go for a touchy feely experience before buying online ..
I only occasionally go to somewhere like the Metrocentre ..but the amount of space in there given over to food & drink outlets as opposed to clothing from when it opened is quite staggering ...the actual " food court " has doubled in size over the last couple of years ..
M&S , House of Frazer.. both closing lots of stores nationally ( the only good thing about that is that it's hit a certain Mr Ashley hard in the pocket ..well next week's pocket money anyway !)
It's the end of the world as we know it !
Deffo Brexit and import costs from outside EU.
Some people need to read the statement and Audit assessment.
Yeah, when your whole business model relies on buying tat from abroad then selling it cheap with minimal margin but high sales and brexity type currency wonk is going to effect you. Nothing to do with brexit though, eh?😂
I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t their brutal and relentless growth plans over the last 10 years or just the subtle but real return to ‘normal times’.
When you can’t get into the carpark of a place that sells 7ps with of ground coffee in a 15p cup for £4 you don’t have to wonder if a shop that sells crap for a £1 is starting to struggle.
I wont miss them, or indeed the million bookies on every High Street when they ban the fixed odds machines either.
