Whilst car washing at the weekend my pressure washer (Ava P60 Evo) sprang a leak where the high pressure hose connects to the unit (I could see the steel wires where it seemed to have split just above where it goes into the connector). Thinking all I'd need to do is get the connector off, dremel the hose down and refit it I got to work trying to prize the hose out of the connector with a screwdriver (as the crimp part of the connector didn't seem to unscrew). After a lot of swearing and steel wire piercing my thumbs on several occasions I got the hose out of the connector but some was left inside. I gave up at that point and dug my old Karcher out to finish washing the car.
Looking at Ava's web-site after though they don't seem to do spares for the hose fitting itself (and a replacement hose is £99...) and googling around I couldn't find anything about replacing high pressure hose connectors either. Is it possible? I've emailed Ava in the hope they'll replace it (or at least offer a substantial discount on a new hose, I've only used it 4 times since buying the pressure washer in May) but I probably should have taken a picture before attacking the connector with a screwdriver... I can see replacement 3rd party hoses are around £50 but still hoping I can just repair the current one (or take it somewhere in Bristol that might repair such things?)
They will be crimped on, so not really a DIY/AT home job. I doubt you would get a sufficient seal with a worm drive clamp or similar.
Find your local Pirtek agent.
Hydraulic hose repairs.
If buying a new hose, get a "Single wire" hydraulic hose (Pirtek, etc will know exactly what you mean). So much nicer to use than the standard junk as they don't coil, kink, etc.
AVA offer a 10 year warranty, or 5 years if you don’t bother to service them. They also claim repairability as a feature/USP. As an AVA owner l’ll be interested to hear what response you get from them.
Yeah, waiting on a response from AVA, hoping they'll sort it but wondering if they'll push back as now all I can show them is the connector separate from the mangled end of the hose, wish I'd taken a picture before I started messing with it!
Definitely DON'T try a homebrew repair. It's failed at the safer end TBH, (no chance of a free hose whipping around to cause injury) but the pressures they run at can fire bits off at an alarming and dangerous velocity.
I know you have a plan already, just wanted to be sure.

It should be a simple Consumer Rights Act claim, the fault would have been deemed to be present from new.
However, having butchered it to **** and back with a screwdriver, your options may now be somewhat more limited. If you couldn't see a way of unscrewing it to get the old one off, how were you planning on getting a new one on? I suspect you're into the realms of goodwill here.
You won't be able to fix it at home, tap pressure is around 2 bar, a pressure washer is around 140 bar. Been there with a busted hose, no chance of sealing it.

I think my logic was the hose was making it awkward to try and manipulate the connector in anyway to figure out how it worked so I fixed that problem only to realise I still couldn't figure out how it worked and that I'd just made things worse (this is how most of my DIY jobs go...), it didn't help my car was half covered in snow foam at the time so I wanted to fix it asap.
AVA have replied saying it sounds like a replacement hose is due under warranty but have asked for the order details etc. first (I thought I remembered registering the warranty for it but now can't find any sort of email confirmation, hopefully they have a record of it their end).

Sounds like a reasonable response from AVA, though I've been stung myself with "did you register the warranty?" before now (with a different company). Good luck.
AVA have confirmed they're sending me a replacement hose and just said I should have had an email confirmation when I registered for the warranty so I might want to try the process again (but didn't use that as an excuse to delay sending out the replacement), happy days 🙂
Sounds like a good result. Just checked and I still have my waranty email just in case, hope I don't need it!
I wouldn't try to repair it. Apart from the danger mentioned about (being hit by an out of control hose) it's also an extremely serious injury if a pinhole leak develops as the water will inject into your hand/arm etc. Which can result in amputation!
