Mushed bannana and maple syrup. Mmm

Enough energy to fuel a small car.

With a spoon from a bowl. Made with milk and sugar or syrup.

Always makes me laugh when folk spout the 'should be made with water and salt'
I'll decide. Water and salt may have been how it was made when luxuries such as sugar wasn't readily available to everyone but I prefer it with sugar thanks! 😀

If it's proper porridge made with oatmeal, then a pinch of salt and some cream is gorgeous.

If it's made with rolled oats (which technically isn't real porridge) then made with 50/50 milk and water, a handful of raisins chucked in while it cooks, then served with cinnamon, brown sugar and a sliced banana on top.

Am I the only person in the world who just hates the stuff, made with water/milk/cream whatever, I just don't like it?
Which is strange as I love oats & milk

I make mine with semi-skiommed milk. That is like 50/50 milk and water.

And I just use some jumbo oats from the local vegan grocers.

1/2 cup oats, 250-300ml mile. Into a bidon and into the fridghe overnight to soak. Stick it on the bike to ride to work, decant into bowl and microwave for 1 minute.

i dont have time to fanny around in the morning with sugar, syrup, cinnamon, raisins etc etc

1 portion of porridge & 1 portion of ready brek mixed. Excellent combo for anyone who isn't a fan of the real thing. Ive had it every morning for 20 years.

With frozen fruit. Yesterday was pink porridge (with raspberries), today was purple (with morello cherries and grated apple), next on the list is blue porridge, with blueberries.

It also goes down a treat with the six month old, despite having way less sugar than bought baby things, and the pieces of frozen fruit make her little bowl cool enough for her to eat. Genius. She can't pick it up though, you have to put it on a spoon then she grabs it off you, turns out that even for babies, porridge isn't finger food (unlike dal and rice, which is finger food/ammunition of the highest calibre)

I don't really like it much. It's ok once in a while but it's too unappealing to eat on early mornings. Toast is better 🙂

For some reason porridge gives me a quick attack of explosive shits, which I then feel empty after.

For that reason it's not my energy food of choice.

Usually have it with some sort of fruit, this morning one of my favourites

And interesting fact, fact fans (which coincidentally I pondered this morning) the seedy/fruity bits above are called arils.

Made with full cream milk with a spoonful of syrup and a handful of sultanas. I even add a bit of extra cold milk once made to make it slip down more easily. A friend made me porridge once with just water and possibly not even salt. I gagged with every mouthful

Semiskimmed*, syrup & sultanas.

(*would consider full milk as well if we ever had it in the house)

With milk and golden syrup. Although tomorrow I might be really exciting and try brown muscovado sugar instead. Woo. Rock n roll.

Fruit has no place on my breakfast table.

I adore porridge and eat it whenever I have time in the mornings. I also believe in religously following recipes, NO deviations are EVER acceptable. However, my porridge has always been p*ss-poor compared with porridge I've had anywhere else, but what the heck. A few weeks ago, half-asleep I blundered the mix (I've always carefully weighed it out according to instructions) and to cap my crime against humanity also got the microwave time wrong (OK, I was hungover!). Bizarrely, it was the best porridge I've ever made. I'm now faced with the huge dilemma of being a recipe deviant and enjoying it, or obeying the rules as set down by the Grand Recipe Council (who are all-knowing and all-seeing). So I've not had it since as I don't know what to do. Oh the dilemma!

With either a dollop of treacle, half a tin of golden syrup, or some tart cooking apple puree.

Usually made with water, because we've run out of milk, not becuase my breakfast is a game of onupmanship.

as per martymac ^^^

Call me unadventurous but that's what I've had every day for the past year and a bit (with the only exceptions being for a fry-up occassionally).
Porridge, flapjack, maltloaf, all you'll ever need. 😀

edit: and jelly babies, obviously.

jumbo rolled oats made with water, cooked till they are still slightly chewy.
Big dollop of honey and sometimes a splash of milk as well.

Sometimes make it with milk instead. Can't beat a nice bowl of porridge in the morning!

Those Quaker oats sachets with -Good Morning- message make my day. Very handfull they are nuked in microwave with milk, then added with dried pineapples, raisins, dried cherries, almonds, and toasted bagels with unsalted butter drive me all the way to the Lunch.

Posh oats (big and chewy) made 50:50 milk and water, cook slow until nice and thick, dollop into bowl, pour some cold milk to make a moat around the outside and then plenty of sugar over the top. Normally white but prefer dark if we have any.

Cold milk cools the edges so you can eat it faster, but the middle will still stay hot. When you run out of moat a refill is mandatory 🙂

Leave the horrible oat-so-simple over-flavoured sachets of mush for the gf who can't differentiate between big soft chewy oats and undercooked oats 🙂

P.S - And cooked the proper way in a saucepan, cos we don't have a microwave...

I usually do normal porage, but I'm having a trial on oat bran, and it is really erm ... solid. Probably go back to normal....
