Seems to be loads to choose from - I have a couple of areas of broken plaster, quite deep in places - just want an easy repair, doesn't need to be cosmetically perfect

Don't use ready mix stuff, its rubbish. Sets inconsistently, sometimes very hard to sand etc.

I always use this http://www.screwfix.com/p/polycell-polyfilla-trade-interior-filler-2kg/36426

They also make a version that can be used externally

What are you doing with it? Ive never had a problem. It works into a consistent paste easily, wont sag or bulge even in deep fills. Its not great on the thinnest skims though - can tend to look scored.

The One Fill is excellent for smallish holes/cracks, I use it on woodwork exclusively. It can take a lot of covering on walls and ceilings - it shows through emulsion. Easifil for under emulsion if there's alot of filling, 2 aplications on deep stuff though

I use the wickes pre-mix decorative one - very light and sands down easily. No shrinkage and dries quick too.

Proper polyfilla just seems overkill for most situations it's about 5 times denser than the plaster you're putting it onto and takes and age to sand back to flat.
