Word on the street is the tabloids were gunning for the Beeb, because of their coverage of the Levenson enquiry.

Wot Jimmers said. There was a definite air of somebody somewhere looking for a reason to have a pop at the beeb. Of course, anyone who'd believe that they could get a camera into a wild polar bear's den to see her newborn cubs without questioning the rationality and practicalities of it, needs to have a think. That's the trouble - we're all a bit inclined to want to believe anything put in front of us in a documentary. 😐

To think people feel conned by a polar bear in a zoo and outrage hits the highstreet faster than a spendaholic with a new credit card.....
......meanwhile the same outraged highstreet vote in their millions week in week out on some celebrity come dancing in the jungle on ice x factor bollox and dont feel in the slightest bit that someone is conning them...hey ho

There seems to be an epidemic in the UK of people just looking for things to be offended and outraged about. I'm sure that now it's been highlighted there'll be a rush of complaints from the hard of thinking who need to be told by a daily paper what they should believe.

The most laughable thing about the whole thing is that the BBC tried to cover up the whole scandal by hiding the truth in plain view on the programme's website. Is the point of this to demonstrate that, if you take away a newspaper's right to hack phones, this is the only journalism they will be capable of, without actually get off their fat ass and leaving their desks.

i took an order over the phone today from david attenborough,

Magnus Magnusson called me up at work once, asking to speak to me specifically, asked me a question about about something completely outside of my expertise or department but by fluke was able to talk about because I'd happened to have been looking at the objects he was enquiring about a few days earlier.

I while later I opened a copy his book "Scotland: The Story of a Nation" and saw my name in the list of credits. Weird.

The fact that people are offended and outraged, itself offends me. It's an outrage.

Well look, say what you like about Hitler- at least he killed Hitler. How many mass murdering dictators has David Attenborough killed eh?

I don't know.... in his younger days it wouldn't have been out of the question, he's all soft spoken and awe and he exchanges meaningful stares with gorillas now. But theirs great footage of him from the fifties chasing and then taking down a giant anteater with a robust flying tackle. Makes Steve Irwin look like Johnny Morris. The latin name for Giant Anteater is "Idi Amin". Actual fact! Or at least it will be once I've finished hacking wikipedia.

I just like the way the Mail journalist alternately refers to the zoo as being in Germany and Dutch, guess that makes them all foreign in the Mails eyes so thats all Ok.

Typical Daily Wail mock outrage. They took great joy in painting Apple as great con artists by fixing the price of ebooks, saying 'look, the iBook copy of Steve Jobs' biography is £12.99, while Amazon do the hardcover for £11.99! It's shocking!'
What they failed to point out is that the Kindle price is also £12.99. The price is set by the publishers, but the Wail never like the facts to get in the way of their middle class moral grandstanding.

The price is set by the publishers

I knew it was the publishers who were responsible for setting prices and overcahrging. B******s! The lot of them.
Is there a black market for ebooks yet?

I'm outraged that yet again STW sees fit to have a pop at that bastion of uncovering the TRUTH, The Daily Mail. We need this type of investigative journalism and by having the truth hidden on an obscure website, it took the experience and diligence of a seasoned journo to unveil it to the horrified public - so they say! If I was Attenborough, I'd be having my phone checked 8)

It was actually the BBC who added to the confusion on which Country it was filmed in "Tonight the BBC said the bears had been filmed in a Dutch wildlife park not a German zoo as they had stated previously on Sunday from this impeccable source.

Edit: Apparently one of the cubs is now in Scotland and its Mother is called Huggies after her sponsors. Max Clifford is taking her calls

I did wonder how they got those Polar bear cub shots without getting shredded.

I assumed they must have tranquillised the mother - which is not good.

So I suppose it's better that they used the zoo.

Still they should have been upfront with it. I expect Attenborough to be honest, and previously I've listened to his take on environmental issues because I thought he could be trusted.

Funny that when the BBC is in the line of fire from the press for polarbeargate its all a big press conspiracy whipping mountains out of molehills to get at the BBC...

but a week or so ago, when the BBC was under fire for Clarkson, then all the hysterical press coverage was entirely justified reportage 🙄

There's none so blind as them that see 😉

Clarkson, massive cock that he is, was under fire. Not the BBC (though as one of his employers, it had to deal with complaints). Are you one of his fans Zulu? You often sound like you could be.

Well, didn't it come out that the BBC editorial team were aware of what Clarkson was going to say in advance 😳

In seven hours of the most stunning HD footage I've ever seen, shot over a period of years in some of the most hostile conditions on this planet, they included 30 seconds of footage which would have been unable to obtain in the wild without a high risk of injury / death to either the camera crew or the animals.

My Giveashitometer must be broken, the needle hasn't moved.

In unrelated news, why hasn't tabloid print media died yet? It really chaffs my arse how many people still pay good money to be misled wholesale.

For once I agree with Zulu-Eleven (and Jamie and The Guardian): some of the tabloids are out for the BBC in a big way to get revenge for (and deflect attention from) the Levenson Inquiry.

Pathetic really.

According to the article they also faked the snowflake footage:

Another scene involving snowflakes forming at close range was also set up and produced in a controlled environment using time-lapse photography.

Did anyone actually think they had somehow managed to get perfect time-lapse footage of "wild" snowflakes forming in clouds as they got blown along by Arctic winds?? 🙄

Any chance we could get footage of Hammond and Clarkson being savaged by a polar bear sometime after their 4x4 has run out of fuel? We can do it in a zoo. I don't mind if the setting has to be mocked up as long as the savaging actually happened.

JY, I'm happy for the savaging to happen from the feet up. But it should start with one of clarkson's eyes being clawed out.

This is certainly an issue that is polarising opinion - geddit?

Of course the answer is:

STOP BUYING TABLOIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's all a load of toss.

Did anyone see episode 2 of Black Mirror BTW?

This seems to be a very good bit of evidence in support of how accurate that satire is.

It also occurred to me that this might be less about Leveson and more about climate change. Because the last episode (I understand - haven't seen it yet) of frozen planet majors on climate change warnings, the usual bunch of idiots, led by Nigel Lawson, were out attacking it. When that failed to get traction they must have been looking very hard to find something else to smear and discredit the programme with. It's the same tactic they've used very successfully many times before - for example with the most recent IPCC reprot where they found a couple of small errors in the science (e.g. rate of loss of Himalayan glaciers) and tried to use that to discredit the whole of the report.

They didn't, it was actually a Tunnock's Tea Cake, the picture you saw was an edited one.
