MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
I've been bought a PS4 for christmas (can't have it until christmas day though) it's the first gaming console I've had since my PS2 so i'm more than a little behind on the gaming front.
I want to get a few games for myself but no idea where to start. I definitely want a racing game as i've always enjoyed racing simulator type games, I also loved grand theft auto vice city when it came out and the most recent games I played on a friends PS3 that i really enjoyed were Assassins Creed and Arkham City.
So, with that little snapshot of info can anyone recommend some games?
I think you can't go wrong with gta5.
Not too similar but I've been playing Alien Isolation ,its a very good game .
I've just completed Wolfenstein, and can confirm it's a fun 12-16 hours or so.
Can get it from Game for £20.

Also, Last Of Us Remastered from Shopto for £25.

You like Arkham City and Assassin's Creed?
You'll be wanting Shadow of Mordor then. Its made by the same people who made Arkham City, features very similar game mechanics and has been described as a cross between Batman and Assassin's Creed.
Win win.
Not got a PS4, but getting Farcry 4 soon for my pc. Reports from mates at work are its fantastic.
I can confirm Farcry 4 on the PS3 is a great game. Think I'm 11+ hours in and only 30% complete. It's a massive game! Plus on the ps4 you can play it multiplayer with your mates who can do it through your console somehow and don't have to own the game.
Far cry 4 is immense, assassins creed black flag amazing. Got unity but struggling to get I to it! Drive club is utter pants! Killzone is good. Nba 2k15 is just hard to control.
Wolfenstein is good
The last of us remastered is nice if you never played the original.
There are no good driving games yet.
Get GTA V. The original on earlier consoles was astounding. I've no doubt it's simply brilliant on modern consoles.
GTA V is amazing on PS4 and generally a fantastic game, not played Wolfenstien but it was on Amazon for £17.49 the other week so I've got it but been too busy to play. COD Adv Warfare is pretty good but yes it's just another COD. Last of Us is stunning on PS4.
Waiting for Farcry 4 to price drop as they usually do for some reason.
Oh and another reason for GTA V is finally.
Like the way it takes the piss out of itself at the start.
Fifa is great but very very hard . Currently enjoying Assassins creed Unity. Awaiting GTA 5
Wondering how that GTA V online heists is going to work...given how their are so many elements to the heists.
...also, assuming a headset is a must. Any recommendations for a half decent one that doesn't cost a million quid?

I reckon for Heists they will be. Turtle Beach do good ones, I paid a bit extra to use it for gaming to so not to piss the wife off.
Has anyone played The Crew yet?

Seems to get a resounding 'meh' from the reviews I have seen.
I played the demo it seemed pretty good but as Jamie says it appears to be average according to feedback.
They need a really good driving simulation like Forza or F1GP
So the last of us remastered is on my list as is GTA5. Possibly Farcry 4 and maybe Assassins creed black flag.
I've never played any of the Call of Duty games ever but am tempted, but mainly because so many seem to rave about them. Are they quite tactical games or just shoot kill shoot kill kill kill type stuff? I prefer a bit of thinking and strategy over just blind all out shooting. I remember many years ago, at least 12 years ago, a game I briefly played on PC whereby you were some sort of SWAT agent and basically each 'level' was a hostage situation and you and your team had to safely remove the hostage and 'neutralise' the target. It was tactical whereby you had to input instructions for your team and had a variety of gadgets and gizmos at your disposal. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called but it was really good. Games like that I find really addictive.
but mainly because so many seem to rave about them
They do? Personally, I see them as a tired franchise that has been running on fumes for the last several years while the publishers wring every ounce of profit out of the series.
They're staged out shoot to kill so not like SWAT.
Jamie I agree but they have a formula that works so tend to be good fun to work and the multiplayer is great for a laugh.

It may just be the excessive marketing campaigns that come with every new COD release thats convinced me they are raved about.

True, Like FIFA, if you've bought earlier versions of the game the yearly update is always going to be a bit samey but if you've never played them before then it would be madness not to get advanced warfare, judged in isolation the current version is still a very good game.
My lads (6 & 8 ) are after a PS4 for Christmas. I've been searching for some games that arent rated 18 for them - there isn't many! Other than minecraft & little big planet what else is there that's ok for kids?
I have tactically agreed to a PS4 as I quite fancy a crack at No man's sky when it's released 🙂
Battlefield 4

It's slim pickings, I'm afraid. Even a lot of the indy games on the PS Store are 12+.
Maybe a Wii U, might be a better idea?
Rating on games is a bit silly at times, the 12+ will be fine in most cases for kids. It'll have a fluffy cartoon character that might hit another or wear a bikini, which will make it a 12 as we can't possibly let young kids see such things.

Minecraft and LBP will keep them busy enough. There are decent sport and lego games as well - Fifa is always popular.
Wii U has the advantage of Mario Kart, which is superb, of course, and is much cheaper, but I'm not convinced it will be a better buy *
*Especially as you want to 'test its capabilities' when the kids are away in bed...
what else is there that's ok for kids?
The Lego games are ace (and split-screen co-op).
what else is there that's ok for kids?
Rayman Legends which can be had for around £20 and as has already been posted the Lego series of games.
I'm not sure if it's been formally released or is still in beta but the "playstation now" streaming service might well be useful as it should open up a far wider selection of games from the 2 previous playstation consoles. Worth keeping an eye on at the very least.
Most of the bases have been covered already: GTA5, (maybe CoD), Last of Us, Far Cry 4, Shadow of Mordor are the big ones.
If you want a "proper" Assassins Creed game I'd go for Black Flag over Unity - it's cheaper and has more variety, and the ship-to-ship combat is ace. Having said that, Mordor is a brilliant game too!
the one thing the PS4 really lacks is a great racing game - although I've not tried The Crew yet. It's a shame there was no revised version of Wipeout at the launch for those of us wanting a retro fix.
As a shooter I prefer Destiny over CoD Modern Warfare or BF4 but then I don't think I'm a typical gamer who likes GTA and zombie killers.
Shadow of Mordor looks fun but my youngest son (age 17) was incensed at the ending.
Destiny is good but unless you like chasing your tail it's over with in a few days.
