For infinitely superior gameplay, go play Doom and Doom 2

and if you want a game that really scares you play either half life one with face huggers jumping at you, or Fear.

I played all Doom - at night and also in the dark.. you have to, any background light reflects off your monitor and makes the Doom graphics in some scenes even harder to make out.. some of the challenges in Doom 3 can be laborious tho..

I used to love playing Alone in the Dark, alone in the dark. That always scared the bejesus out of me.

HL was scary when it first came out. D3 was pretty nervewracking, never knowing if the next room was going to be yet more monsters to shoot, and another keycard to find.

Only ever played the demo of Doom 3, but yeah, I found it very atmospheric and proper scary.
I would imagine it lost its novelty and fright factor after a few plays though.

didn't find Half Life at all scary by comparison.

Oh yeah....Alone in the Dark. That was pretty creepy in the dark.
As was Silent Hill (I think it was called) and Alien (can't remember what one).

Yeah Dead Space is very well done nice and eary.

never knowing if the next room was going to be yet more monsters to shoot, and another keycard to find.

Doom 3 is way too predictable, if it's dark or flashing lights then there's nasties there if it's bright then there's not.

HL1 didnt bother me in the slightest... Doom 3 was designed to be "jumpy", and it bloody worked with me. As a standalone game though, yes it was pretty tedious and repetitive. Not really ground breaking at the time. Never played it online though.

Must get around to trying L4D see what thats like. Most of the lads I play online with have moved over to that.

Playing Alien vs Predator as a marine, in the dark, on my own.

Actually let out a few yelps as the critters jumped out of dark corners.

Doom3 didn't creep me out like silent hill did but it did make me jump like the [url=

take brothers creeping along, the lights have just gone out, get ready, somethings gonna happen any min...BLEURGH I physically jump and onscreen end up facing the wrong direction getting my ass chewed by an imp. HL2 got me a few times too.

Oh yeah forgot about AVP2, the bloody aliens would jump out at different points too on a replay or after quick reload.

"Space Hulk" from ages ago scared the crap out of me when playing in the dark. Most of the game was so very quiet, fairly relaxing even, never quite knowing when all hell was about to break loose...

Dead space was brilliant and quite scary - difficult on harder settings

The first AVP. Playing as marine with the motion detector going

*wip*

It got to the point where I didn't want to go through another door.

I uninstalled Dead Space last night from my PC. Great game, I've no doubt, but I just haven't the balls for it and didn't enjoy it. For the record I was 1 and a half levels into its 12 levels. Much better than Doom 3, although the over-the-shoulder mechanism is pretty clunky, particularly when you're cornered.

Rocketplough - I love that "not another door" feeling in Dead Space, deep breath, "its only a game", check ammo, check map...

I've got a copy of Dead Space going spare if anyone wants it.... I have to say, though, even after only 2 hours it was starting to get a bit repetitive. Shame I didn't see it through, as the scrawlings in blood on the walls, and the little snippets of plot from the audio logs were all quite intriguing...
