[Closed] Needing to buy a second-hand bike from New York - help!

What's the best way of shipping it over? It's a private sale so should they take it to their local bike shop and get them to send it to mine in the UK?
As the bike is second hand (8 years old) but in new condition - how much VAT and duty will I need to pay. Is it cheaper just to fly over and get myself?
As you might have gathered I've not done this before!!
Many thanks for any helpful advice.

Anyone? Has somebody on here ever imported from the US?

Cheap flight out with "scrap bike" in a bike bag. Replace scrap bike with "new" bike and voila, no VAT/import duty. Maybe 🙂

Good excuse for a trip to NYC too!

Well I've just found a return ticket for sale for £150 but it would mean that I'd have to stay out there a week.
