I reckon it's about once every ten tracks. I'm currently to listening to something by Faithless that I swear I've never heard before in my life...
frequently. I often think i must have picked up the wrong ipod, as I'd never buy **** like this 😉
Make that one track in three - I own a track by Ezee Posse? Since when?
I probably know the title of 1 in 10 tracks!
Always checking who things are by when driving along 😳
my i tunes has ~9 weeks of music (after getting rid of 3 weeks worth)
i've never heard most of it!
Yup all the time, that's why I do it though, i forget what music I have guess the song title/artist keeps me going on a long drive
yep, quite often hear something I don't recognise!
Quite often, but usually in a good way.
I'm more amazed by the frequency in which tracks come up in sequences which are so perfect as to be damn near spooky.
I set up a automated playlist that only has songs flagged as worth listening to as I got fed up of skipping album tracks and bits of learn french CDs!
Sometimes, it's usually something by Harry Nillson
Always!
I got masses and masses and masses of music quite a while back via...ahem, torrentz and have 80gig of music on me pod, the vast percentage of I have no idea who or what it is.
I must get around to deleting all the rubbish. I wish there was a button where you could delete it right from the device as you hear it.
What gets me regarding the random setting, is in iTunes you can adjust 'how random' you want it.... 🙄
Surely you cannot have degrees of randomness? Its either random or not..
Random...
I read an interesting (no, really) article once about the algorithm they use for the "random" on i-pod shuffle. The original one was genuinely random, and freaked people out with the same songs coming up.
The crux of it was that in a genuinely random sequence, every song has exactly the same chance of getting selected. So if you have 500 songs, the chance of it playing the same song again is 1/500. And again, 1/500. The odds aren't cumulative.
Anyway, they had to make it "not quite random" in order to convince people that it is random.
Well I thought that was interesting !
iTunes you can adjust 'how random' you want it
This I did not know.....
Since my wife and I merged music collections, I often think that. And often not in a good way. Next.. next.. next.. bloody hell NEXT.. next.. christmas music... next... christmas music.. ARGH U BLOODY 2! next.. oh I love this.. turn off random and go back to beginning of album
I'm now listening to Berlin 'Take My Breath Away'.
But everyone's got the Top Gun soundtrack, right? 🙂
So if you have 500 songs, the chance of it playing the same song again is 1/500. And again, 1/500. The odds aren't cumulative
Early versions of winamp etc did this. Then some randomise the entire collection into one playlist up front and then go through that - it ensures you don't get repeats until every last song has been played. You can tell if yours does this by hitting back and seeing if you get the same songs in reverse order. Some devices do it, some don't.
Really clever players register which songs you skip through and which you don't, to try and figure out what kind of mood you are in to select more appropriate stuff based on genre.
My iPod Shuffling is shit! I have well over 1,000 tunes and there are still songs I haven't heard on it. I would say 99% of them I know, within the first 4 beats of the tunes. 😀
Not true. Some just remember the songs you listed to last via the "random selection"Then some randomise the entire collection into one playlist up front and then go through that - it ensures you don't get repeats until every last song has been played. You can tell if yours does this by hitting back and seeing if you get the same songs in reverse order. Some devices do it, some don't.
The shuffle on my iPod definitely seems non-random - it'll fixate on a few artists, for example, and play multiple things from them.
