Any places that do nice food at a reasonable price in the tourist areas?
They're all much of a muchness to be honest. I had a good meal and decent bottle of wine at one of the restaurants that sets up in the middle of the street and ferries the food over. Sorry I can't be more specific!
Don't tell anyone, though.
I spend a lot of time in Barca, and whenever possible I eat at this place.
Plenty of nice seafood places by the harbour. Hard Rock Cafe at the top La Rambla, very cheesy American affair but nice steak and burgers
Food in the market is nice too
Go to Gracia and eat Lebanese food. Cool area too.
Look for a locals "Menu del dia".
Stay near the Gothic quarter and dip in and out of the Tapas bars. Don't waste the night in one restaurant!

You walk through the kitchens to get to your table
I really liked Bar CaƱete just off the Ramblas when I went. A local friend took us there, fantastic tapas.
Another vote for Los Caracoles.
Later, go to eSe eFe for a beer and a spot of music, and afterwards visit The Drunk Monk.
Bagdhad Club.
Ahem.
This is a small chain in barca http://www.buenasmigas.com/ i stumbled across it, so so tasty for the money and far healthier than normal fast food. So good that Barcelona's multi millionaire footballers eat there.
I'll remember some of your shouts as I'm there in 2 weeks.
On the BM website are some recipes to make at home.
Tapas.
Market.
Another vote for los caracoles. Food was ok but atmosphere & bar are worth a trip.
