This thread is fantastic, great to see its still going. The quality of the pics is immense. I don´t think that many people would vote against giving top prize to Grum, (your photos are so consistantly fantastic and the climbing one is my fav so far)but there´s so many cool photos.

[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

And I took the same location as the last one in monochrome which I liked but my GF didn´t.

That baby elephant is great, something really human about the scene somehow! I took some new ones the other day that I liked...

Don´t know what´s going on here, maybe a jilted lover? Either way it must have been a shock when they opened the front door!
[img] [/img]

Not so proud of my photo skills but my sneaking up skills are top notch. It was eating a bumble bee. Stunning things, there were hundreds flying about.

I like this one too. Looking over into Navarra.

Had some downhillers out recently and they did some sessioning on some corners... gave me a chance to take the same shot with different settings and play around with things. Pretty pleased with these two, although the second one could benefit from a bit of a crop:

If you want to do mountainbiking pics then go on the Seb Rogers photo course. April & October.

Grum: Like the fire one up there ^^^. Maybe a bit of sympathetic PP to try to lose some of the noise? Waterfall one good too, but would it work better in colour?

They've gone through a bit of cropping, and some fiddling with the curves.

Thanks zokes - only had Picasa available for PP when I did them so no noise reduction and not much control. WIll have another play with it though now I'm back home.

The light wasn't amazing for the falls shot so I though a mean and moody B+W might work better. I will dig out a colour version.

Here's a less blurry version

[img] [/img]

Like the Victor Harbour shot btw.

Also like the biking action pics - not really had a chance to have a proper go at that yet

Hmmm, not sure now. Perhaps the B&W does fit that shot better. I'm not great at this myself yet, but I think I'd try to pick out the silky water a bit whiter, and darken the sky to add a brooding contrast. Still well composed, just tryinmg to think of ways to get the best out of the poor light.

I got a couple in Waterfall Gulley here in Adelaide at the weekend with similarly poor lighting. Not really sure how to 'pep them up' yet. No software at all with me other than the horrendously clunky Canon DPP, and the GIMP. Not really set up for it at present as PC still floating around in an ocean somewhere en route...

Correct - Tussen Bruggen taken from Grasbrug looking towards St Michielsbrug. Korenlei is on your right, Graslei is on the left . It's usually a bit less crowded than in this pic - Gent Festival was on!

@ Torminalis

Like the pic - main subject on a 'third', grass leading across the pic works well, in focus: what's not to like?

(Don't know whether I'm qualified to comment under your criterion but there you go!)

I've realised that I need a new camera since I've become hyper-aware of noise, even at low ISO, on my Ricoh GX100. Shame, as it's a great camera in every other respect.

Pity about the flat light - took some with my film camera on some lovely Ilford Pan-F 50, but I'll have to wait until I've finished the film before I see whether B&W film did anything better with the flat light

Nice chilly feel to that one, Simon.

Both from a wee camping & light off-roading weekend in Galloway forest, near Kirroughtree...

Needs to be viewed in darkness this one - haven't worked out the best system for night shots yet...

Nice budgie CZ.

Nah, it's a baby Robin!
Actually, her name's Sue, and she's a Peregrine/Saker cross. Big bird, not as big as a Peregrine/Gyr cross, but she'll take a Crow or a Rook.
Lovely budgie...;0)

A stormy night in Morzine last week. It was pitch black before the flash, the amount of light was amazing.
