Number 1 daughter.

Number 1 son.

Taken just as they woke up the other day (after I'd been out taking dawn pics of the allotment).

As Grum said, it's a Church in Heysham, Lancashire.
Slighty different as i shot with a 720nm IR filter on the camera.

Grum, your pic is brill. It just works. Wouldnt look out of place as an advert.

Teadrinker's shot is now my desktop background. It sums up the perfect end to any ride or walk.
And remember you can't charge me for nicking it cos proper-tea is theft!
Sorry 😳

Grum,

Great pic as usual. Either you know that handsome devil or you waited 3 days for him to pass by? Which is it?

Cheers folks - was just sat on a bench in town playing with my old manual focus Canon 50mm 1.4 and this guy walked past. He's very slightly our of focus as the DOF is really thin at 1.4, but it blurs the background quite nicely.

qwerty, Not strictly up the bum but yes. 😀
Only when they have moulted though and then it's just a hollow skin. most spiders moult their eyes, mouth and sex organs.
I think you realise you are in trouble when you start sharing photos and info with other people about your spiders naughty bits. 😳

And as it's a photo thread, here is a baby M.calpeiana or European Funnel web

ROPER: Are all those spiders your pets or is it part of your job? Or do you just live in some exotic location full of random beasties?

Really like the Tiree pictures, would love to visit there someday

Creg, I have just under 40 spiders. Most are tarantulas but I have a trapdoor and a few funnel webs and other types of spiders. The funnel webs are native to where I live (Southern Spain). I have some pairs for breeding too. I am nerdy enough to keep records on them, and have one or two experiments ongoing as very little is know about certain species and their behaviour. Some of these notes may be published in a paper, if they work out OK.
This is another of mine (though she is bigger now)

Really rather chuffed with this one I took this afternoon with my iPhone. It's a Marsh Hellebore, one of our prettiest orchids, but only grows about three or four inches tall. Hundreds of them grow in one small area of chalk downland near Calne, Wilts.

I'd love to have one but I'd have all hell on trying to keep my 5 cats away from it.

A friend of mine had quite a few Tarantulas and a Huntsman, my favorite was a pink toe tarantula called Elvis (who ended up dying ironically). Really amazing creatures.

As a casual observer, the reason why many of these snaps fail (from a photographic perspective only you understand) is due to poor cropping. A little post production crop will as oft' as not tighten the image or subject matter and make it a far more successful photograph (flower & damn images above being perfect examples of this).

Adding a border is a sure-fire way of preventing the image from bleeding out into the page - it works especially well in the graphic monochrome barbed wire picture above.

As a casual observer I fail to find any problems at all with the cropping of the reservoir photo above. But then I'm just an amateur who's been taking photos for the best part of twenty five years, so what do I know?

I rather like what I've managed to do with this pic of my niece dancing at a wedding. I think the photo was taken by my wife, and was a bit of a 'nothing shot' as it stood - I used Aperture to play around with exposure settings, cropped it, converted to black and white, then used a brush tool to 'remove' the black and white from her dress.

Being colour blind, I generally find it difficult to play about with photos in this way, so using black and white is a good way of overcoming that particular snag.
