It's interesting isnt't it, that Andy's work is considerably better than the material in that link above!

Sure it does but I was basing my comment on the fact that the linked work looks a lot like Andy's.

Have to say I prefer Andy's too. Much more feeling. The linked ones all felt a bit too processed and in your face. None of the subtlety of Andy's work.

This made me chuckle. No, this was actually taken on, honestly, Brighton Pier! It was, I pressume, a stag weekend.

Changing the subject for a moment, this is wonderful:

Kit - loving your portraits. Very dynamic.

This isn't so much a picture I'm proud of (though I like the low key exposure) but it is something I am very excited about. I've borrowed this Hasselblad 501CM from a friend of mine. She's a professional photographer but hasn't used this in maybe eight years or so and is looking to move it on. I've been Medium Format curious for a while now. There is a certain look I'm chasing and I want to find out whether it has anything to do with the dynamic range that film, especially medium format film has compared to digital.

Polarisandy's work has inspired me also (and Andy please chip in with any tips particularly around metering and exposure). I've been toying with the idea of just buying something cheap-ish and second hand, like a Fuji GW670 or Mamiya RZ67 and then just selling on if it didn't work out but borrowing one of these is a perfect outcome.

This isn't however just any old 'blad 501CM and indeed the reason it's special is that the last time it was used was September 22nd 2007, which also happens to be the day I got married.

This is indeed, the camera that our wedding photo's were taken with. Special indeed.

Took these in St Gervais a few days before the tour came through. The first one is the orginal just taken on a Panasonic TZ70 on auto settings. It was a really clear night and I couldn't believe it when I saw the result.

Anyone seen 'Photographer of the Year' on Sky Arts? Bloody pretentious presentation, but worth watching for the photography. Shame the judges/ presenter are made the stars instead of the contestants really, cos they're clearly very talented.

Thanks Greg, clearly I shoot very different portraits to you (i.e. they're organised and staged), but really enjoying it.

I couldn't tell you if it's gemnuine or fake, I suspect it's the latter.

Why do you suspect that? I know landscape photographers who, with long lenses (500-600mm range) go out to capture images like that. Many many failures, but the successes are spectacular. You should give the guy some credit!

Back to landscapes, this is home, and a heavily processed image! This was one of those "I'll adjust all the sliders to max, ah that's better, no wait let's dial that right back again...much better" kinds of processing ๐Ÿ˜€

Why do you suspect that?

Just because when you look at the edges of the plane closely they break up quite a bit. It looked odd. I don't think it matteres if it was taken as shown or created in post, it's not an image that does anything for me. The fact that it can be created artificially makes it less intersting. That photographer does have a lot of other very interesting work though for which I am more than prepared to give him a lot of credit.

I couldn't tell you if it's gemnuine or fake, I suspect it's the latter.

There's no distortion from the heat of the engines' exhaust. I'd be fairly confident to say that the plane is inserted into the image.

There is distortion from the heat of the engines, and I think that adds to the raggedness of the plane outline.

Anyway, I like it regardless.

I've looked at it now on the laptop rather than the phone and I believe you're right. It's actually even more obvious directly to the right of the plane in the contrast between the moon and the black sky. I stand corrected.

Film bods, can you recommend a uk lab? I've had some problems with my home dev and now have a stash of rolls for processing, and will be in the UK next week for a while so might get them done there.

Some headless holibob snaps of the lad, camera warranty probably now void... No access to a computer so they're just OOC jpegs, cropped (or not) in Instagram. [img] ?ig_cache_key=MTMwNDMyNTMzMzQ2OTg0MTM3NA%3D%3D.2[/img]

And if someone can tell me why my photos don't appear when between [img] tags, it would be appreciated.

In the 'Share' options, select BBCode and copy/paste that. Couldn't tell you why the embed code won't work.

Even more fun than SIlverstone yesterday, was getting back in time for the village friendly after the Beer and Cricket Festival had ended.
Mixed teams of locals and the Amsterdam team and assorted kids.
Samantha (10) had never tried it before but had the steely eyed glare down pat. When her helmet hadn't dropped over her eyes that is...

Fine work too from Will who was fearless:
